Want a great new pair of jeans but hate the idea of spending hundreds on them? You're not alone -- a new survey from ShopSmart found that the average woman spends only $34 on a pair of jeans.

Don't fret, we've searched out some of today's hottest looks for under $40. Ready, set, shop!

Tyte - The makers of Tyte jeans just patented two cool new styles, launching at Macy's next month. The legwarmer jean comes with a set of detachable legwarmers that can be scrunched up or switched with other colors and patterns. The athletic jean features a knit racing-stripe panel running along each leg. At $30 a pair, you'll probably want to snap up both styles.

Olsenboye - Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen's new line for JCPenney offers some of the most fashion-forward jeans in the under-$40 price range. Try the new denim-knit style or the boyfriend jean -- both have a London vibe and retail for only $30 each.

Converse - Converse One Star, an exclusive line at Target, offers a great pair of skinny jeans in a range of dark washes that look great on a full-figured frames. Best of all, they are only $35 a pair.

Old Navy - The Rock Star Super-Skinny jean has just the right amount of stretch to offer comfort and style. Since the retailer offers them in short, regular, and long, you won't even have to pay a visit to the tailor. Wear them with sandals now and easily transition them into fall with boots. At only $35, they can't be beat.

Forever 21 - From a frayed five-pocket boot cut to an extreme skinny, this fast-fashion retailer offers some of the trendiest jeans money can buy -- and ranging from $13 to $30, there's not one pair that will break the bank.

Charlotte Russe - The trendy store has completely overhauled its denim collection to include a wider range of fits and styles. Check out the new curvy or the extreme skinny. Either way, you'll spend no more than $35.

Signature by Levi's - Who doesn't like a jean that makes you look slim and stylish? The Signature by Levi's Totally Slimming line stretches for a comfortable fit, has of-the-moment washes, and features a hidden tummy-tucking control panel to make you appear leaner. Available in boyfriend, boot-cut, straight-leg, skinny, and flare styles (as well as a skirt), the Totally Slimming line retails at Walmart and Kmart for $20 to $25.

GLO - Gloria Vanderbilt has a younger (and more fashion-forward) little sister in GLO jeans, available exclusively at Kmart. Check out the brand's $20 acid-wash jeggings.

Grane - If you're looking for a great basic jean that goes with anything, check out Grane's Selma style -- it's a boot cut that works great on curvy bodies. Find them for $25 at Macy's, Belk, and Bon-Ton.

L.E.I. - Walmart's exclusive L.E.I. brand offers denims with all the bells and whistles for only $18. Check out the new motorcycle jean with a slightly destructed finish or the skinny jean with studded back pockets.

Not expensive? Only $40. In this economy, $40 is a huge expense for one pair of jeans. Stop falling for just a name. Buy local or store brands and put the cash saved to better use.

I agree with Mr. Taylor. $40 for jeans. I would never pay that. I feel reckless if I pay over $20. The funny thing is a lot of these jeans, expensive and cheap, come from the same factories in asia somewhere. Save your money.

Maybe, you could find fashion jeans at about $10 here on the site http://www.top-dresses.com/category-23-b0-Jeans.html

Like $40 isn't a lot for a pair of jeans? I can see why there are some people believe the recession is over. The jeans with the 'hole' look is way over-rated. Just rip a pair of your old jeans up and wear them. At least you won't have to drop a bundle of money on them. And why is it that some people look down on poor or homeless people who can't dress nicely? A bit of twisted thinking there.

I hate the ripped jean trend. Paying for a purposefully damaged product is cool now- it's stupid to pay that much for jeans that look like you've had them for 10 years.

There are a few places I purchased jeans recently... Places I've never been to before.. I have shopped at Victoria Secret for bras and panties, but never regular clothes, until I went to their web site! They have the best fitting jeans and very close to real size.. Also, Old Navy is great too. I also bought jeans at a shoe store on line, but they did have some clothes for sale too.

I think all of these jeans are completely over priced. I DO buy jeans from these stores (i just wait until there on sale) i think $20 max for a pair of jeans. UNLESS they are dark denim or something dressy.

A little off topic but I SO agree Jane. There are things about Michelle Obama to appreciate but her sense of style isn't one of them

Seven ads for garbage, before getting to ACTUAL comments.
AOL doing poor job of weeding out the BS.

$40.00 for jeans is expensive.
For jeans that still look like they were pulled from a dumpster.

I'm 19 and I know a local store that sells fashionable jeans for 20 dollars or less. I mean, these jeans could give Abercrombie a run for their money, they are so darn cute.
40 bucks is a lot of money for only one pair!

Even I don't buy big name brands unless they are on clearance. Shop smart = get more! :)

Thank you AOL for taking my advice and doing an article about jeans that are $40 and under! Who wants to pay designer prices when there are better options out there. AE has jeans under $40 and so does Kohl's. I love Vigoss and Bongo b/c I got a fat lil bubble but and slim hips. It's hard to find a pair that don't flair out at the hips and still fit in the but and thighs!

So AOL publishes stories about $200 designer jeans and everyone complains. Then they publish a story about $40 jeans, and everyone still complains. REALLY people?! Sure we all have our preferences and budgets but jeans are an investment...a good pair will fit you well and last for YEARS. $40 is CHEAP if you think about it that way. While I don't know if I'd pay even that much for Forever 21 or some of the above brands, don't judge by price alone - do your research and find a good pair that works for YOU that will stand the test of time, and realize that you do get what you pay for in most cases!

Jane, No people aren't blind when saying Mrs. Obama has style. You however, are racist which is much worse than being blind!

Just because she thinks Queen Michelle doesn't have style does not make her a racist......PLEASE......get over it! It's people like you who will always perpetuate hatred..Most of the people who voted Obama in office were white, so the race card does not work anymore.

$40 is very expensive for one pair of jeans! I never spend over $25 and the jeans I get are just fine. You people must live in a different world.

You don't think $40. is expensive? Buy a pair and send them to me. I buy my clothes at a thrift shop. Never spent that much for a pair of jeans in my life.

OH PLEASE......we are RACIST when saying that M. Obama usually wears ugly or strange outfits????? What in the heck does an opinion about her not being a "fashionista" have to do with being racist? That is so old and out of place, that you would have to be a true racist to even think of it!! When so many of the headlines are always touting how beautifully she selects her clothes and how great she looks in them, how do you propose that we who disagree with that statement express it? Those strange little cardigan sweaters opened up and then with a belt way up under the usual bustline are truly an egregious fashion statement, as are all the argyle-type patterns she wears constantly, and many of the unflattering outfits that she puts together on a regular basis. I have the right to comment when I disagree, so knock off the RACIST BS.....I don't care if she were lily-white, I still think that when she does pick a really nice garment, it's like she must have made a mistake because of her usual selections!!!!
