Solved: Your first step should be to see if the vest includes an extra button. "Look on the inside seam near the bottom," says Sam Stogner, vice president of Men's Wearhouse's formalwear division. "There is usually another button sewn there for just this emergency." If you can't find an extra button, you could also replace the missing button with the bottom button of the vest. It's fine to leave the bottom button open, and your guests won't notice that anything is amiss.

Don't have any needle and thread to attach a new button? "No problem, use a safety pin or a rubber band in a pinch," says Stogner.
