In what some are calling the closest thing to an American royal affair (since the Kennedy days, of course), Chelsea Clinton married her longtime beau Marc Mezvinsky in Rhinebeck, NY, in a star-studded ceremony.

Chelsea Clinton wore an Vera Wang wedding dress (as we knew she would!) to exchange vows in the interfaith ceremony before a reported 400-500 guests, including Wang herself.

The ivory strapless gown featured a silk tulle diagonally draped bodice with a raw edged laser-cut swirling silk organza ball skirt and train, a spokesperson for the bridal brand told StyleList.

Clinton's tiny waist was cinched with an embellished belt also by the designer, while her hair was pulled back and accented by a long traditional Vera Wang tulle veil. Chelsea complemented her gorgeous gown with a simple bouquet of white hydrangeas.

For the reception, she changed into a Vera Wang silk tulle Grecian gown with a crisscross back and a narrow black grosgrain belt.

Chelsea's bridesmaids donned Vera Wang lavender chiffon strapless bias cut gowns with a side drape and contrasting plum bows.

Vera Wang released this statement: "It was an honor and a privilege to dress Chelsea on her wedding day. I have watched her grow into a beautiful, grounded and caring young woman. She radiated joy, youth and happiness. I wish Chelsea and Marc a long, happy and healthy life together."

As for the groom, he wore a custom wool mohair mix peak lapel tuxedo by Burberry, who also designed Mezvinsky's shirt, tie, and shoes as well as shirts and ties for the groomsmen, the company revealed to us..

The bride's parents, former President Bill Clinton and Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton, issued the following statement to The New York Times:

"Today, we watched with great pride and overwhelming emotion as Chelsea and Marc wed in a beautiful ceremony at Astor Courts, surrounded by family and their close friends.

"We could not have asked for a more perfect day to celebrate the beginning of their life together, and we are so happy to welcome Marc into our family. On behalf of the newlyweds, we want to give special thanks to the people of Rhinebeck for welcoming us and to everyone for their well-wishes on this special day."

The 30-year-old bride and 32-year-old groom -- an investment banker whose parents served in Congress -- had both their ceremony and reception at the glitzy Astor Courts, a Beaux Arts-style estate built from 1902-1904 for John Jacob Astor IV, one of the most famous early American millionaires.

To suit the dressy event, female guests were seen wearing formal floor-length gowns, including the mother of the bride who looked prettier than we've ever seen her in an elegant Oscar de la Renta raspberry degradé embroidered silk gazar gown. Bill Clinton wore a slim black suit and narrow tie.

Congratulations to the happy couple!

Oh no, not another strapless wedding gown! Enough, enough! At least Chelsea is slim enough to wear this gown, unlike so many brides who look awful with bare arms and shoulders. All these gowns look the same and when I see yet another strapless bridal gown, I stop looking at it. They are going to date horribly. Don't make a mistake like this anyone looking at bridal gown ideas.

Could not agree more! Strapless wedding gowns are UGLY! These young gals are going to regret their choice years from now when they look back at their wedding photos! Bring back sleeves!!!! I was hoping Chelsea would start the trend back to "real" wedding gowns and choose sleeves of some sort, but she did not.

Funny. When I got married I chose a very traditional gown with long sleeves and a full back and neck. Looking back...well UGH. There's no way I'd chose that dress today. I wouldn't even bother trying it on. It may not have been dated the gown but I'm also not able to say I loved my wedding gown. Maybe Chelsea can and will be able to in the future.
To pcorfield, just because you don't like the style doesn't mean that she's going to "regret" her choice. I'm sure there are plenty of women out there that are still happy with the strapless gowns they chose.
She may regret it one day, or she may look back at it, for the rest of her life, and be thrilled with her choice.

I wonder what happened to the bride who had the same wedding day and location with Chelsea. She was on Yahoo news a couple of days ago asking to see the problem it would cause her own wedding. I hope her day was great and without any problems to her own big day.

Very surprised that she wore no necklace. Am I the only one who thinks something was needed there?

I didn't really notice until you pointed it out. I do agree, a simple and elegant necklace would have been a nice touch.

She looks beautiful, and the dress is beautiful as well. Strapless gowns look elegant and grown up. Some of those wedding gowns with the sleeves and fussy tops look like glorified, huge First Communion or christening gowns.

the dress looks cheap, i seen more prettier, cheaper and simple dresses, just because its vera wang or whatever the hell doesn't make it beautiful. no necklace made the whole thing look more tacky.

I think Chelsea looked beautiful and her dress was gorgeous. I do think that Bill is too skinny. (I thought I'd never say that.. lol). It ages him. He looks better with a little meat on his bones. May Chelsea and Marc have a wonderful life together! I wish them only the best... (and gain some weight, Bill)

I'm kind of surprised that people seem to strongly dislike strapless gowns. I think they look nice on youthful, slim women. Regardless of how anyone might feel about the Clintons and their politics, it can't be denied that Chelsea is thin and still fairly young.

As for women looking back and regretting the strapless gown, I think that's just a fact of life with any style. Nothing is "in" forever. What was thought of as a beautiful gown in 1860 is certainly no longer in vogue, same for the gowns of the of the 1900's. Whatever we wear today will someday be thought of as old fashioned and ridiculous by someone in the future. As long as a bride is happy and confident in the gown of her choice on her special day, that's what really matters.

I read it was to be a black tie affair, yet the brides father and groom wore a regular black tie. Sure took away the formal look. Bill looked very old and very red face. The bride looked lovely except as mentioned above, her neck needed something.
Wish them the very best for a long life together.

Second I guess the loser she married is happy now?? Look at all the money he's signed on for!! I guess it's clear why they didn't invite barry owe bamma though? He hates jews being the muslim that he is and this appears to have been a jewish wedding? I am surprised that she got the bum to shave for the wedding though?? The Duke has spoken!!!

I thought she looked lovely in that dress.

And "Maria", thanks for your "informative" post. I got a lot out of it.

Good for Chelsea, I do wish her the best. And "Jasmine", I must disagree. I thought the absence of a necklace was just fine. If you're going to wear a Vera Wang dress, you don't need to go over the top with accessories. Just my own opinion.
