Joining the ranks of short-haired actresses Michelle Williams, Cate Blanchett, and Carey Mulligan, "Harry Potter" star Emma Watson has taken the plunge and lopped her long locks into a sleek and chic pixie cut.

"Yes, I cut my hair off a few days ago! I love it -- feels incredible. Hope you like it!" the 20-year-old Brit tweeted on Aug. 5 before redirecting fans to her updated profile picture on Facebook.

In the black-and-white photo (left), Watson looks like a dead ringer for Mia Farrow, showing off a supershort 'do parted on the side, with barely there bangs and subtle blonde highlights up top.

"I've wanted to do this for years and years; it's the most liberating thing ever," Watson writes on her Facebook wall.

The actress -- and face of Burberry -- will be showing off her new androgynous style all over New York City this week while she's in town promoting "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part I" before heading back to study at Brown University in the fall.

Besides the actresses previously mentioned, the pixie cut has also been famously worn by Katie Holmes, Victoria Beckham, and Halle Berry, as well as forebearers Audrey Hepburn, Twiggy, and Jean Seberg.

How does Watson's cut stack up to the rest? Let us know in a comment below.

Should you try the pixie yourself? Read StyleList's short-hair guide to find out.

Love it! I have short hair myself and I can understand her excitement. It really is the best thing ever!

Love the short hair. NOW if someone could dress her in cute, classy, stylish clothes, instead of the rag bag style she normally wears.

Oh no, I loved her hair before! Sure, that's cute, but I'm just so used to seeing her with those beautiful curls, it's really disappointing to see that they're gone now. :(

It's adorable. Emma seems like a very sweet girl. It's a nice change! She's not looking all slutty as so many young girls look today.
The nice thing about hair - it grows back and allows you to try something different.
People don't get all hung up about the curls being gone, it's just hair.
She's adorable. Continued success Emma.

Looks fantastic! Could be Twiggy or Mia Farrow in a modern time. She's growing up and it's about time she cut her hair. Now to redo her clothes into a classier style.

Her face can handle a short hair cut. My question is: Why are some women trying to look more like men. Are they not comfortable being a woman? She actually looks like she is a woman that wishes she was a man.

who says short hair only belongs to men? in some cultures it's the women with the short hair and men long, there isn't any "rule" that states women can't have short hair.

I have short hair. And I feel that most of the time a woman cuts her hair because she feels very secure about the fact that she is a woman. The thing I like about my short hair is that it doesn't cover my face, and therefore accentuates my feminine features.

Not all women can pull off a short hairstyle, but Emma Watson surely does! Gorgeous!

Beverly ~ Her cut looks wonderful. Who said that females have to have long hair and males have to have short hair? The person is free to wear their hair the way they wish and what makes them feel good about themselves. I know alot of females who look much better with a shorter look. I also know alot of males who wear their hair longer and it looks darn good on them! There never was a "rule" on hair length for anyone. Society gets too picky and gender-biased. People need to wear their hair with what feels right for them (and I even prefer my husband with his hair longer and short).

Sorry, this look does nothing for her. Never did understand the appeal of this awful pixie cut. There's nothing cute about it.

I would rather see the long hair that she has always had. It always seems that in Hollyweird once an actress cuts the hair then it is a reflection/statement about something going on in their life that they can't handle. I guess I always remember when Britney Spears cut her hair! Hopefully it nothing like that for this actress.

It really takes a beautiful face to pull off hair that short.....and she has it. Not many women really do so they grow their hair long. Gorgeous.
