You have to be really careful if you're going for the short locks. Most ladies look quite attractive in a face on shot. But be very careful of your profile. If you don't have a long swan like neck and if your hair is cut at the nape of your neck, your chin can sometimes look heavy and enormous and your neck thick an ugly. I know because I made this error only once.

Now I crop the front and wear the back long tucked under a bow or scrunchie to balance my chin. Everyone forgets about the profile. You can add ten years to your age with a thick neck and heavy chin. Watch out!

It's your hair of course, so ultimately it's up to you...but my advice is go for it! I also have fair skin (very, very fair actually!) and I also recently decided to experiment with a new dark hue. I've also been thinking about cutting it but I haven't had the guts to do that so far lol. I really like my new color and everyone has been telling me that it looks great, so I guess my hair experiment was a success. My natural color is blonde but I've always admired dark haired beauties like Audrey Hepburn and Elizabeth Taylor. I think it looks kind of mysterious and sultry. I think it stands out a lot more, light hair is kind of common with fair skin, so I think dark hair is a little more unusual and has a nice exotic appeal. I'm glad I finally made a change. Exactly what shade to choose would depend on whether you have cool toned or warm toned skin (I'm guessing if you're fair then you're probably cool toned) but a good stylist should be able to help you find the right shade.
