We invited the designer to chat live with StyleList readers via Twitter about everything fashion -- tips, tricks, and even and a little advice for aspiring fashionistas, too. Take a look at some of her most memorable answers:
CommDuCoeur: How do you plan on adapting your whimsical storybook style to cater to the Juicy brand (a very different demographic)?
Erin: My personal style certainly has a sense of whimsy and I have found inspiration from stories and fairytales alike. But above all else I would define my personal style as being feminine, modern, chic, and fun, and those are design values I think the Juicy customer already appreciates.
jules792000: Ok, trite question, but where do you get your inspiration from?
Erin: Everywhere! I love looking at film, literature, art, real women and my friends for inspiration. Inspiration is all around us.
Minderblender: Uggs, are they way out or still ok?
Erin: Wayyyyyy out!
sweetone624: Do you have other favorite designers?
Erin: I think it's a very exciting time for women designers in fashion right now. I'm really appreciating what we are seeing from the camps of Stella McCartney, Phoebe Philo, and Hannah McGibbons.
luv_mydachshund: As a child what was your favorite fashion style? Did you have anything "signature" back then?
Erin: At age 4 I loved my lavender tutu -- it was all fantasy all the time.
annasho: What are the most universally flattering fashion trends for this Fall?
Erin: Pretty blouses & flattering jeans. Stretch denim is huge right now and it's a great way to find the perfect fit.
stepamee: What is your favorite classic fashion item that you feel will always be stylish and that every woman should own?
Erin: The little black dress.
holla22: Why did you choose to use '70s-style "Chelsea Girls' as your inspiration for your Fall 2010 Line?
Erin: I took Nico as my muse for the season. I have always appreciated her personal sense of style and the way it has transcended the test of time.
TheFrisky: We love your holiday collection! What is your must have for fall?
Erin: Velvet is a great fabric for fall. It looks rich and old world in a way that feels totally modern. Go for a jacket or skinny pant.
shells177: Where do you see Juicy Couture in 10 years?
Erin: Juicy has so much potential for global growth. I can imagine Juicy Couture hotels in 10 years!
sabrinaricher: Did you go to any fashion school to learn how to make clothes?
Erin: I studied liberal arts at UC Berkeley where I got my BA. Then studied fashion at the Parsons School of Design in Paris.
_ElenaH: what articles of clothing should every woman have in her wardrobe?
Erin: A great fitting pair of jeans. A great blazer & the perfect little black dress are also a must!
pontowd: Erin how did you decide you wanted to be a designer? Did your parents encourage you?
Erin: I'm so fortunate to have wonderfully supportive parents who always encouraged my creativity. I always wanted to be become a designer and looked for every opportunity when I was young to find my way here.
beautyrusshx3: How long does it take to take a design to go from paper to being done?
Erin: From the first design to product being in stores- nearly a 12 month process! So many steps to get to the final product.
mgunnell77: I'm pretty tall...is it still okay for me to wear high heels?
Erin: Absolutely! I'm 5'10" myself & I love to wear very high heels.
Mindee7: I'm pretty short .... how can I appear taller without having to wear sky-high heels?
Erin: Wear elongated silhouettes & slim fitting clothing. It makes you appear taller!
KennyArbuckle: Is it still true that brown and black should not be worn together?
Erin: I think any color rule is meant to be broken. Black & brown and also navy & black are very modern color combinations.
PeppermintAllie: What is the best accessory for fall? I see a ton of animal prints, fur, suede. What's hot?
Erin: Animal print is definitely big for Fall. Ladylike accessories feel fresh too. Fall is all about looking polished!
Mayfey: Of all the pieces for Juicy you've designed, which one would you wear the most?
Erin: Can't wait to wear the pieces from my holiday capsule. Love the washed silk tuxedo jumpsuit & the embellished tee I designed!
JadeAshleyBr own: How do you suggest young aspiring stylist start out in the fashion business?
Erin: Educate yourself. Read every magazine. Pay attention to credits. Learn what & who you like and don't like. Then start interning & assisting other stylists. The best way to learn is on the job!
