You only need a camera phone to shop the September issue of Marie Claire, on newsstands now.
The magazine has teamed with Pongr, a company specializing in advertising-technology products and services, to launch the Snap to Buy program, making more than 200 brands in the issue's pages accessible with a couple of clicks.
"Marie Claire's Snap to Buy program brings not just individual pages to life, but individual products on those pages, and makes them shoppable," says Nancy Berger Cardone, the magazine's vice president/publisher.
"It's a great way for brands to further connect with Marie Claire readers when they're in a shopping mind-set. This is a quick and easy way to shop, obtain special offers, insider access, and bonus content from our editorial team."
So, say you simply have to have something that cover girl Mary-Kate Olsen is wearing in the magazine. Just look for a phone icon next to the fashion or beauty item you're dying to own, take a photo of that page with your phone, and e-mail it to shopMC@hearst.com (or text to 617-470-4552). Within 60 seconds, you'll receive a link to buy.
Pongr co-founder and CEO Jamie Thompson says the app-less, tag-less effort takes image recognition to the next level.
"For luxury advertisers like Michael Kors, Giorgio Armani, David Yurman, and many others, using the product as the visual cue is critical to the brand," he says.
