Marc Jacobs Admits to Hair Transplant - Says It Was So Painful, He Cried

Marc Jacobs just came out of the closet on his hair transplant.

In this month's interview with Details, the fashion designer known for his hip-luxe styles confessed that he underwent a hair transplant in May, and it was even more painful than getting tattoos.

"I didn't cry over those," Jacobs says in the Details story, referring to how much worse the hair transplant was than the tattoos. "I couldn't sleep on my side, and I couldn't put my head back."

According to Jacobs, his new hairline is part of self-induced makeover that he started three years ago, when he overhauled his diet and exercise routine and started taking care of his skin and hair.

Jacobs now enjoys regular facials, full-body massages, mani's and pedi's as well as a full skin care regime that includes Dr. Brandt Time Arrest Eye Serum, Joëlle Ciocco cleansers, toners and moisturizers and Yves Saint Laurent Teint Parfait Complexion Enhancer #7 to conceal the dark circles under his eyes.

No surprise to us, given how much Jacobs likes to party.

We hear the primping designer also gets his teeth whitened at the dentist's office once a year, and uses a special Rembrandt toothpaste that is formulated to lighten up tough smoker stains.

And not surprisingly, the finishing touch is always the designer's newly minted Bang fragrance, which Jacobs says he strategically blended with pepper and white moss.

"I always smell like smoke. I happen to like the smell of fragrances on smokers," Jacobs told Details.

The Bang campaign was equally smokin' and filled with plenty of controversy. Check out our coverage of the skin-baring ads.

I had one done nearly 30 years ago and it was painless. He must have had quite a large one done..

it's probably one of the worst procedures you will ever get in your life.. if anything, it was much worse than what he told you.. I advise anyone, before getting one, watch how it is done on a video and it will disgust you to no end and probably change your mind about getting it done

So he's doing all of this to enhance his outer looks but yet he's still smoking?

Lynn, my thoughts exactly. He wants to be so pretty, taking care of his body, but yet still pollutes it with smoking. Doesn't he realize that smoking ages a person? Maybe his next big step should be to forgo the fru-fru facial and spend the money on Chantix or something. Filthy, life-shortening, disgusting habit. And yeah, I used to smoke. At least I wised up 25 years ago when I was at the tender age of 21!

I agree...I Know allot of people who take all kinds of vitamins and do this and that ...but they keep smoking....smokers don't understand their hair smells, their breath smells(coffee and cigarette together...eww) their house smells....I know a dentist who had a similar procedure done .They transplant each hair.Is this the same ?It looked really good and you couldn't tell anything was done.....it wasn't that painful as he describes.....

Pretty? Where's the 'pretty'? Uh, looks like pretty took a vacation. Like Matt said in the 1st post, he WOULD look closer to Arafat without all the regimens. He'll have a facelift within 5 years, no doubt.

I've never smoked, and it's nothing against those who do, but it's just silly to go through all of that when he could be working on quitting smoking instead. And I've heard how hard it is to kick the habit, but I mean, looking young won't help you if you die of lung cancer. (And congrats to you, French!) :)

Why do people, both men and women constantly try to stop or turn back the hands of time? Inevitably, they look like they have had work done and it makes them appear desperate!

Isn't it odd that all the great European designers who had grace, style, and true talent allowed themselves to age gracefully and elegantly? In America, we think tatoos and hair transplants are the way to go. Tacky!

Thank God I'm European!

Are you actually trying to say that European designers such as Donatella Versace and Karl Lagerfeld don't go under the knife??? I have lived in Europe, and spent much time in Monaco and seen more plastic surgery there than I ever have in the US. European designers are just as into plastic surgery as anyone. Hence, the term Euro Trash. Only the poor in Europe avoid plastic surgery essentialy.
