Last night at the New Museum in New York City, tennis goddess Maria Sharapova took a break from training for the upcoming U.S. Open to celebrate the launch of her newest collection for Cole Haan.

The party, co-hosted by Interview Magazine's Christopher Bollen and photographer/blogger Todd Selby, was also attended by Lorenzo Martone and fashion editors galore.

While guests munched on dessert fare and bid on a silent auction featuring illustrations by Selby, Sharapova worked the room in a Aztec-looking minidress by Suno and a pair of black lace-up Air Swan sandals from the Fall 2010 offerings that she helped design.

We caught up with the tennis ace, and here's what she had to say:

StyleList: You have been collaborating with Cole Haan for a while now. How do you like working with the brand?
Maria Sharapova: It is so much fun. I get to work with incredible, talented people and I really get to share my ideas about the designs. I've been able to travel a lot and I love going different places and seeing the street style and fashion in different parts of the world. It is really inspiring.

What is special about this collection?
MS: It is energetic and playful and elegant. It is really a reflection of my lifestyle of performance and function. They are great staple pieces.

SL: Do you have a favorite piece in the collection?
MS: I really like the calf skin flat. All I wear are flats. We started with one and now we have 10 different colors so that is exciting.

SL: How are you preparing for the U.S. Open?
MS: I train in the morning and run. Its pretty boring now. The U.S. Open is one of my most favorite times of the year. It's really fun and I love playing here so I'm excited.
