Prevention magazine recently put a variety of anti-aging products to the test to see which are really worth your time and money.

A team of top dermatologists from New York to Spokane, WA, tried various contenders in the anti-aging category, giving their unbiased opinions.

The results? Seven winners were deemed worthy of the magazine's "Defy-Your-Age" seal. And here's a welcome surprise: They're all $50 or less! In no particular order:

Best dark spot treatment: RoC Multi Correxion Skin Perfecting System, $50
This three-step system uses retinol, soy, and vitamin C to improve skin tone.

Best day cream: HydroPeptide SPF 30 Anti-Wrinkle Skin Enhancing UV Protection, $40
This hydrator helps protect against future damage while camouflaging redness and blotchiness.

Best night cream: Vichy LiftActiv Retinol HA Night, $42
Testers reported brighter skin and a big improvement in wrinkles and brown spots with this fast-working retinol cream.

Best eye cream: Avon ANEW Reversalist Illuminating Eye System, $30
A two-step regimen (collagen-boosting cream for plumper, younger skin, plus a brightening "veil" that softens imperfections with light-diffusing mica, silica, and polymers).

Best skin peel: Skin Effects by Dr. Jeffrey Dover Glycolic Peel Kit, $25
An easy, affordable way to exfoliate away dead cells and reveal smoother skin without the dermatologist.

Best lip treatment: PCA Skin Peptide Lip Therapy, $20
The peppermint oil-laced formula plumps lips while shea butter and sunflower seed oil hydrate.

Best body cream: Olay Definity Neck & Chest Daily Restoration Treatment, $25
Sun spots on the neck and chest area will be evened out gradually thanks to this daily treatment.

I have tried them all, including the $400 a jar face creams. The best one is the La Roche-Posay line. It's not only phenomenal, but it's sold in CVS and for less than $50.

I swear by Barmon Skin Creme. Been using it for years. Top notch! Not in stores just by their site. Good stuff.

Oh Barmon! Yeah I use that, too! I've been using it for 2 years now and I love it. I get it from their website. I freaked turning 50! A friend of mine suggested Barmon for my dry skin I complained about. THis took care of it.

Peppermint oil? I cannot believe my colleagues could recommend any product w/peppermint oil. Peppermint oil is terribly drying to the skin which is probably why the lip treatment they recommended also contains shea butter & sunflower seed oil--you're gonna need it. the drying & aging effects far outweigh the temporary tingling and "plumping" it claims to do. For decades, the industry has tricked people into believing the tingling you feel from a product means it's working. WRONG. it means it has some kind of menthol ingredient which means it's gonna dry your skin. The product they recommended would have been better off w/just the shea butter and sunscreen--key ingredients to keeping your skin & lips moist and protecting your skin & lips from harmful, aging rays.

All this money spend on anti-aging products is a waste. I worked for almost 30 yrs. a Nurse & saw many eldery women with beautiful skin I asked what they used they answered, "vaseline". I am 53 now, have had a brain stem stroke, beat 2 types of cancers, fighting another one now. But I don't really have much for wrinkles on my face, not too bad. The vaseline must have worked.

While it's sad what you are now battling, I'm more concerned by the fact that you willing slathered crude oil (which is exactly where vaseline comes from - petroleum) all over your face? It's toxic and you chose to put it on the largest organ you have - skin. You are a nurse and health is your expertise, but perhaps kicking the vaseline habit will help you body to detox and heal. Good luck.

I am 55 and sometimes still get carded. Really. I have used Oil of Olay moisturizer since I was in my 20"s. I use it everyday, in the morning under makeup and in the evening after a good cleansing. I do not have trouble with oily or dry skin. When asked how I managed to stay so young looking, my answer is and will always be- OIL OF OLAY.Oh yea, it is definitely under $50.00. LOL Most drug stores carry the regular Oil of Olay moisturizer for around $8.00.

P.S. When I do get carded, it is when the employee is told to card anyone that looks 40 or younger, not 21 or younger. Oil of Olay is wonderful but everything has a limit. HAHA

Debby , thanks for your concern, But these elderly women I spoke of were in their late 80's & 90's .This is an old timer's lets say remedy to wrinkles, has used for years. The vaselne was not toxic to them & is not toxic used in moderation. I do not slather it , I put a mild coat on my face only at bedtime. I have spoke with my specialist & there is no concern of toxicity. It is the only product that does not burn me & I can put near my eye lids. It works for me. I tried many products, they burned my skin worse than radiation. Frankly at this point I am not too concerned about wrinkles anymore, was just giving comment to others about the vaseline & how it worked for me. But thank you for your concern.

That was a very nice reply to Debby, that could have gotten way out of hand. My aunt used Ponds cold cream and baby oil, for years. Now she has alzheimers, but still a beautiful, young looking 98 year old.

Candi, Thank you, Sorry about your Aunt's alzhemeimers Is so sad an illness, I have seen many people with it. It saddens me. I think worse than cancer, at least cancer you have a fighting chance to beat it. I see U can understand I only was commenting on what works for me. Believe me I tried everything. Years ago I could use just regular oil of olay facial lotion. For some reason afer treatments my skin got very sensitive to eveything. I will say this also, the only way I can even wipe my butt is with vaseline on the tissue, & this is what my Doctor has told me to do. It is my only relief from the pain of the burning there. I have had prescriptions to no relief. No way I can explain my cancer's on this site.

I think the prices of these products are beyond ridiculously expensive. I realize there are products that cost way way more, and compared to those, these *recommended* products are less. But come on, paying $20 for a product that's just for your lips? Another one just for your eyes? Paying $40-50 for a small bottle/jar of lotion/cream? Some people just love to swallow the hype, or like to flush their money down the toilet I guess. Moisture is the key, and using it regularly to keep skin from getting dry [and SPF to protect skin from UVA and UVB rays, of course]. Any product that costs more than $10 is just charging you for their *name* and/or some crappola **new special magical miracle-find ingredient**...and I'm not paying for crappola or some stupid brand name! Ask yourself...who paid for this Special Awards event? [answer: the industry] They can't exactly give awards to vaseline or baby oil after the industry spent all that money on this glorious event now can they?]

Cetaphil cream (not the lotion) is the BEST thing for smooth skin. It's around $11 but lasts for months and months.

p.s. I forgot to add: I think the award goes to.......wait for it.......a nice chunk of Aloe leave that I freshly cut from my plant...apply the goo inside the leaf before bedtime, rinse in the morning. Now that is a miracle worker for skin.

Ardis, you got it ! I give U the award. The juice from the aloe plant is the best. I had forgotten about that. I had a huge plant when my children were young & used it for everything , diaper rash, sun burn, dryskin, small cuts(scraps),that plant was the best thing for healing naturally. That was so long ago, I moved & the plant didn't make it. Now days they may say ,that is not good for you. But U are correct. Cost very little to get a small plant , it will eventually grow. The costs of these products are too high. When simple products do the job just as well. Also , I don't believe it could ever be found anyone ever got toxic or chemical poisoning from either vaseline or baby oil, unless they ate or drank it. I don't use it myself but baby oil is a great moisturizer. Aloe gel/juice from the plant would be my choice.

Thanks for clearing the vaseline mess up, some people don't realize what plain old white pure petroleum jelly is. Its been used for years on babies, & as I had stated in the first place elderly women. It has done wonders for my burning skin, I have tried many products to no relief. My eye lids especially burn, vaseline soothes them or they would be raw. I am 53 & have been through my share of hell on earth , but don't have much for wrinkles, not that at this point I really care. I am just blessed to be here. I do still have my pride but more concerned about my battling/fighting than wrinkles. I use it too stop the burn. It works, just happens to stop wrinkles also.
