Do you love beachy highlights, but aren't sure if you want to take the plunge with permanent hair color? Take a cue from "Glee" actress Lea Michele's hair at the Emmy Awards 2010 – her two-tone hair, spliced with sunny copper highlights, was a one-night strand.

"There's a huge hair color trend going around where actresses are letting their hair color grow out a little bit, for dark roots with lighter ends," celebrity hair stylist Mark Townsend told StyleList from Los Angeles, where he'd just finished prepping both Michele and January Jones for the red carpet using products from Dove Hair Care. "Jessica Biel, Drew Barrymore and Rachel Bilson are just a few adoptees of the look."

But when actresses are filming a movie or a television series, they are not allowed to change their hair length or color, even a little bit. So their hairstylists have to get creative.

Townsend did just that by lightening Michele's hair for the evening using clip-in hair extensions."It gave her a very summer feeling," he said. "The Emmys happen at end of summer where everyone is tan and their hair is lighter. Lea's hair is naturally very dark brown, so we went really light with a golden copper hue for the highlights."

To get the look yourself, buy clip-in extensions (Townsend recommends Garlend-Drake.com) in a tone a few shades lighter than your natural color, clip your hair half up and insert them haphazardly around the head. Unclip your hair and let the top layer spill over the extensions so they peek through unexpectedly.

And if you're not sure if ombre, tousled waves like Michele are the perfect look for you, head over to Daily Makeover to try on the hairstyle in their Virtual Makeover Studio!
