Fashion is having a masculine moment.

Menswear-inspired pieces, sent down several fall runways, are heading into stores with looks that lend a feminine twist to traditionally male vests, trousers, blazers and accessories.

"The menswear trend gives an empowering edge to women," celebrity stylist Joey Tierney tells StyleList. "There's something sexy about a women in a well-tailored suit. The look is strong, yet still feminine, with clean and simple lines."

Jeannie Mai, host of "How Do I Look?" on The Style Network, says menswear appeals to women because of it's seductive, androgynous appeal.

"Thank heavens for legends like the late Alexander McQueen and even Coco Chanel, who have taught us that, when executed well, it can result in a chic, sophisticated finish," she tells StyleList.

Menswear fashion expert Mordechai Rubinstein, who helms the blog Mister Mort, says traditional menswear pieces can look great on a woman, especially waistcoats, high-waisted trousers and the double-breasted blazer. "Not some tiny girls' poly-blend blazer thing," he tells StyleList. "(But) a proper blazer, that if you wanted to roll the sleeve a bit, it's long enough."

Here are more tips from the pros on wearing the menswear trend, while still looking like a lady.

Suiting Up:
  • "Make sure that your jacket fits you well, otherwise it could create a boxy silhouette," Tierney says. "Women should make sure of the fit when practicing this trend. You want to keep it sexy and make sure that the clothing you are wearing accentuates your body and doesn't hide it. Just because the trend is called menswear doesn't mean you have to dress like a man. It means you create a feminine classy look with well-tailored lines."
  • "Fit is fashion," Mai agrees. "Even in a boyfriend blazer, shoulder seams should be aligned with your own and darting should fall along your bust line appropriately."
Add Girlie Touches:
  • "To give a softer touch to menswear, mix it with sheer fabrics and lace," says Tierney. "Color is always a great way to mix in your own personal style through your accessories and accent garments."
  • "I prefer accents of the menswear trend," Mai says. "A newsboy cap with a pencil skirt and a button up is a chic touch, or add penny loafers to your trousers with a feminine soft blouse. Heels are always a good touch to sass up menswear, and also add height to lengthen the look when necessary."

From Marc Jacobs to J.Crew, menswear was a huge inspiration for fall. We invited some of our dear friends (and power players) from the worlds of fashion and media to test out the trend. Take a look at their cute boy-meets-girl ensembles. Styled by Erica Blumenthal

Thoughts on Menswear: "While I'm a heels girl & am a big fan of frippery, my get-dressed M.O. has always been to add something boyish before I head out the door. A big watch, a briefcase-like bag, chunky loafers-a little masculine edge helps keep flirty pieces from being too expected-or worse, too girly."

Style Tip: A blazer/blouse combo can be quite formal, so we choose to break up Susan's look with some au courant leather shorts.

Marc by Marc Jacobs 'Oxford' Stretch Wool Jacket, 398, available at Nordstrom.com. ASOS Pussybow Short Sleeve Blouse, $44, available at Asos.com. Theory 'Iselin' leather shorts, $315, available at Theory.com.Topshop briefcase messenger bag, $250, available at Topshop.com. A.P.C. ankle boots, $560, available at Apc.fr.

Style Ethos: "You can never wear too much black."

Thoughts on Menswear: "It's come and gone over the years but many women love to wear it regardless of trends. My favorite piece is a VIvienne Westwood tuxedo jacket and I wear it with everything I can, from cocktail jackets to jeans. There's something fun about wearing a traditionally masculine item that's cut for your figure."

Style Tip: One can never go wrong with a shirt dress but if you are looking to make the look less preppy, the addition of a cool biker vest or jacket will do.

Billy Reid shirtdress, $275, available at Billy Reid. Topshop leather biker vest, $330, available at Topshop.com. Jean-Michael Cazabat hazel booties, $695, available at Barney's New York. Reiss skinny t bar belt, $95, available at Reissonline.com. Falke ribbed tights, $50, available at Topshop.com. Zoe Chicco double strand bracelet, $92, available at Zoechicco.com.

Style Ethos: "Comfortable and cute!"

Thoughts on Menswear: "I think a piece here or there is always sexy and powerful. It gives me confidence when I rock clothes that are nicely tailored or with pinstripes."

Style Tip: If you're feeling a touch of plaid and want to avoid the lumberjack route, try out a pretty blouse like the one seen here. There were also plenty of tailored suits that went down the runway, find the one that works for you. All black is always a chic option.
BCBG Max Azria blazer, $268, and black stretch pants, $98, available at select Macy's, for store info call 1-800-343-0121. Rachel Rachel Roy plaid tie front top, $79, at select Macy's. Stuart Weitzman two-tone penny loafer, $385, at Stuart Weitzman, Madison Avenue 212.750.2555. Thoughts on Menswear: "I'm a fan of how menswear is unfussy. The simple addition of any piece instantly sharpens an outfit (how many of us have thrown a blazer over a ratty shirt, and called it a day?) My favorite skirt length right now is right under the knee, and to counter the va-va-voom of the body-con shape, I love a fitted blazer and a pair of ass-kicking boots.

Style TIp:The three-quarter length frock is all the rage for fall. If you wear a fitted version like Connie, make sure to offset the look with a tailored blazer for day and a cropped leather jacket for evening.

Theory stretch canvas blazer, $395, available at Theory.com Z Spoke by Zac Posen stretch tank dress, exclusively at Saksfifthavenue.com. A.P.C Bordeaux Canvas and Leather Bag, $530, available at Apc.fr. Giles and Brothers long chevron necklace, $220, available at Gilesandbrother.com. Tory Burch bootie, $450, available at Toryburch.com.

Style Ethos: "I like to be comfortable and I hate matching. Generally the only thing that remotely saves me fashion-wise is my love for vintage as well as timeless trends and fashion iconography from film and music."

Style Tip: Menswear-inspired pants were a reoccurring runway trend. Pairing yours with a feminine bow tie blouse creates the right juxtaposition between feminine and masculine. Also don't be wary of the high heeled hiker bootie, which was also omnipresent this season.

Candela leather jacket, $686, for information go to Candela Online Store Reiss camel tailored trouser, $185, available at Reiss Online A.P.C tie neck blouse, $250, available at Apc.fr. Temperley London leather tote bag, $1,150, for information go to Temperleylondon.com. Topshop belt, $44, available at Topshop.com. ASOS navy and brown suede booties, $135, available Nov 1 at ASOS.com.

Fashion & Media Darlings Model Fall Menswear Looks

Name: Gabrielle Sirkin

Style Ethos: "My personal style is minimal and mindless. I'm always mixing in boyfriend jeans or oversized sweaters. I don't think menswear is a trend, look at Diane Keaton in Annie Hall or Greta Garbo! There's something so timeless and effortless about women in menswear-inspired clothing."

Style Tip: Blazers and bomber jackets aren't the only way to go when tapping into the menswear trend. Gab's cool pleated pants were made with the boys in mind, but her fur-trimmed topper was not. Find the right balance to help complete your look.

Shipley & Halmos Perrier cropped bomber, $665, available at Barneys New York 660 Madison Avenue New York, NY. Theory white button down shirt, $190, available at Theory.com. Men's Off Kilter Pants in Teo Wool, $598, for more information go to Zeromariacornejo.com or call 212.925.3849.
Losselliani brass feather and rhinestone ring, $160, for information go to Iosselliani.com. , and skull and rhinestone earrings, $105, at Barney's New York. Nine West 'Trixxy' high-heeled oxford, $109, available 9/28 at Ninewest.com.

Affiliation: Editor at AOL's Lemondrop.com

Style Ethos: "My fashion ethos is 'Female Mallard.' I tend to go neutral and non-flashy, in the hopes of blending into the vegetation to avoid foxes and other marsh predators."

Style Tip:Despite what some may say, white can definitely be worn after Labor Day. When paired with a chunky knit sweater, this sweet mini skirt can take Julieanne from day to night and the purple tights are a fun touch.

Tommy Hilfiger sweater, $148, and skirt, $98, available at Tommy Hilfiger Fifth Avenue Flagship. For more information call 212-223-1824. French connection western shirt, $98, available at Frenchconnection.com. Stylist's own DKNY tights. Rosegold camel suede ankle boot, $185, available at Endless.com.

Looks that Work:
  • "On a casual day, a simple vintage blue work pant and a fisherman's knit sweater or cotton (sweater)," Rubinstein says. "All a few sizes up, of course. For a cold autumnal or winter evening, a gray chalk stripe flannel double-breasted suit with gray wool Birkenstocks, rag wool socks, and a fedora."
  • "Women should look for a well-tailored pencil skirt, fitted blazer and tailored button up shirt," Tierney says, adding that oxford shoes, such as the styles from Marc Jacobs, are great footwear choices.
Accessorizing It:
  • "I always add cuff links to my favorite blazers, especially antiques I've collected from my grandfathers and their fathers," Mai says. "I recently found an unbelievable old pocket watch that hardly works, but it works when I leave the chain dangling out of my front pocket. Really there's no wrong way to wear menswear."
Like the idea of borrowing from the boys? Here's how to wear the boyfriend blazer.

This is a good example of the de-feminization of women in our society. It is perverted and is why so many men are disenchanted with the women in our society who want to be men instead of women.
Sick!

This goes to show that it is still a man's world. I love the edrogenis look as much as the next woman. To get the job, the more masculine the look the better chance of nailing that job, however, to nail the guy in charge, takes on a different look all together. WHY? I have never gone out of my way to dress deliberately for job hunting or man hunting. If they don't like what I bring to the table, they aren't really looking for what's inside my head, just what's inside my jeans.

It's our time now and we should take the balls by the bull and stand up on our own merits rather than to try to seduce our way into the workplace!

I agree with you Rob. I am a woman and certainly want to look like a woman and be treated like a woman. Honest to goodness, I don't know where some of this stuff comes from! If I were a man, I would want my woman to look like a woman. I love pink nail polish and lipstick (black, blue polish?...what a joke!). I love to wear dresses, skirts, and yes, even jeans with a crisp white cotton blouse plus throw on a string of pearls and you're good to go. That's femmie! Ladies, please don't fall for all of this hype just so the fashion industry can line their pockets season after season. Find your own style, something you feel comfortable in and your man adores, and tell the fashion "experts" to kiss off!

The gay men in the fashion industry seem to be attempting to drive all the straight men, they cannot get, to become gay. First they place emphasis on a male figure (thin framed women), then having a big bottom is in (the part most gay men would find attractive), and now they stop beating around the bush and say women should now start dressing like men. LOL gay men in the fashion industry will stop at NOTHING.

And the fact that a man such as yourself is reading a column about fashion is a good example of the emasculation of men in our society. It is perverted and is why so many women are disenchanted with the men in our society who want to read about fashion instead of sports and tools. Sick!

You know what, if the fashion world told us that wearing a pineapple on top of our head, we would run to the nearest produce store and pick one up. I think the Menswear inspired trend should stay where it belongs, with the men. It does nothing for women, I think our bodies get lost in the excess-fabric tailored jackets and roomy pants. Not to say that I think women need to show off their body in a more provocative way, then that would be just downright slutty. What I'm saying is, remember the famous saying, "I am woman, hear me roar!" by Helen Reddy. Why should our styles be "insprired" by men when it's perfectly clear that women are dominant in the fashion world. I can make one thing perfectly clear, I will not be following the trend this fall. MY opinion on trend? Create your own. "Fashions fade; style is eternal." -YSL

Well said, YSL. It is getting harder to find women in the U.S. who are proud of their femininity and their bodies, like European women and other countries around the world. Men appreciate women who are proud of their feminiity and act and dress like women, not men!

Thank you, Rob! And yes, I do agree with you about the European women grasping their feminine sides! When I went to Paris & Rome, every woman, from a size 2 to a 20, knew how to dress like a woman.... I loved it! Now I am a fashionista hard-core, but at times like these I need to start my own trend... let's get back to the days of Audrey Hepburn, Elizabeth Taylos, and Marilyn Monroe... now THAT'S beautiful! :)

This is stupid. Women want to wear men's clothes are also wearing men's underwear,
and there's been a trend to give girls boys names. For instance: Drew, Alex, Morgan,
Glenn, Ashley, Riley, Sydney.
What all this reveals, is women want to be men, and men want to be women. Funny
how we were never told this fact from our parents, teachers, or clergy.

I'm not going to get into all the "gender blender" stuff because it isn't necessary. There is no angle from which any of those "outfits" has any appeal what-so-ever. You can get the same look by shopping in the X-Large section of the Salvation Army Thrift store; blindfolded. It's not fashion. It's not "design". In fact, it's the opposite of design and it's just crap!

Now, the Blumenthal thing, with the shorts over leggings is a hot look. I live in Colombia and it has been very popular here for some time. Colombian women are built like WOMEN in the hips and butt (makes me hot just thinking about it) but, generally, have shorter legs (can you say Kim Kardashian?), so it makes their legs look longer, especially with high heels, but it is also hot on the thinner model in the pic..... just lose the over-sized looking boots!
