WHAT WE THOUGHT: Nicole Miller's collections typically feature a rock 'n' roll edge and in recent seasons, we've come to expect a rather hard look (for example, short body-conscious dresses in black). When this show kicked off with a hard bass beat, we prepared to embrace that notion again. Instead, Miller's offerings revealed a much appreciated airiness. Lightweight silk satin and chiffon garments were sheer and layered perfectly for summer. Most arrived in off-white or dove-gray shades (a reoccurring trend for spring 2011). The edge wasn't totally dissolved, however; some of the dresses bore harnesslike details and open backs, which suited us just fine.
