Tragically, the beauty press wasn't allowed backstage at Rodarte's Spring 2011 fashion show (sob!), but we got the scoop from our trusty sources at Aveda and MAC Cosmetics.

The models looked like young hippies, with lived-in strands accented with custom hand carved wood, branch, and leaf barrettes. The tress accoutrement paired with golden lips and lashes gave the feeling of a wood nymph atop a collection rife with '70s-inspired suburban funkiness and golden warrior princesses.

THE SCOOP: For Rodarte's Spring 2011 collection, sisters Kate and Laura Mulleavy were inspired by the landscape of Northern California -- giant Redwood trees, the coastline along Big Sur, and Monterey Bay. So, it was only natural that hairstylist Odile Gilbert create a look that had an inhibited essence.

"The naturally textured, organic feeling of the hair reflects the Rodarte collection this season. A beautiful barrette, inspired by giant Redwood trees, pulls the look together," said Gilbert. "The hair is tousled and full of body on top and through the middle but blunter and straighter on the ends-a very 1970's aesthetic."

Lead makeup artist James Kaliardos rounded out the look by accentuating the models' neutral faces with golden dusted eyelashes and lips.

GET THE LOOK - HAIR: All hair products by Aveda. Prep damp hair with Brilliant Damage Control and blow dry straight with a Mason Pearson brush. Using fingers for a slightly imperfect look, create a super strong part on the left side of the head, parallel to the center of the right eyebrow. Liberally spray on Air Control Hair Spray for shine and hold. Emulsify Damage Remedy Daily Hair Repair in hands to create lived-in texture and prevent breakage. Use fingers to tousle hair and enhance body with Volumizing Tunic. Secure a thick barrette to the left side, just above the ear. Set the look with Air Control Hair Spray.

GET THE LOOK - MAKEUP: All makeup by MAC. Mimic the eggshell finish of the face by applying Studio Sculpt Foundation and brushing Prep and Prime Transparent Finishing Powder down the T-zone. Contour the cheekbones and temples with Quarry Eye Shadow and smooth on Pearl Cream Colour Base high on the the cheeks. Blend NC42 Select Cover-Up Concealer onto the eyelids. Draw No Kick Eye Kohl (available 2011) onto the waterlines of the eyes. Paint 36 Lash with Golden Lemon Pigment and apply to the lash line and blend the color onto the inner and outer corners of the eyes. Finish by applying MAC Pro Lip Erase in Dim as a base to the lips and layer on MAC Pro Rose Gold Metal Pigment and Golden Lemon Pigment.
