Ruben and Isabel Toledo seem to be in the golden era of their careers, reaping what they've sown with their highly stylized artistry for over 20 years.
Let's see ... Michelle Obama, check. Being honored by FIT's Couture Council, check. Target deal, check. And the latest: Ruben Toledo's "Fashion Almanac," which was feted by Nordstrom at New York City's Indochine on Sept. 13.
The book is a collection of Ruben's illustrations for Nordstrom's ad campaigns over the past decade.
"Fashion is like a tree, giving fruits and flowers," he told StyleList.
"But at the same time things keep getting bigger and bigger and bigger. There's a wonderful permanency and etherealness that is here today, gone tomorrow. I enjoy working with that."
He added that he would not have been able to grow in this role without the trust of Nordstrom.
"To me, it's like working with family," said Ruben. "They give me so much freedom and leeway. For me to be at my best, they have to trust me, and not everyone appreciates that. The book is a celebration of that and also a celebration of working with Nordstrom for ten years."
What's next for the designing duo? Debuting Isabel's collection for Payless, which has already bowed in Paris.
"It was really funny," Isabel admitted. "We premiered it at Colette in Paris in August. There were all these Goyard-carrying women, buying six pairs. They were asking, 'It's Payless? What is Payless?'"
We can't wait!

Ruben Toledo is genius! He and his wife work so hard, are so creative, and seem like truly generous, curious, hyper-talented people. Three cheers for celebrating them!
