Spanish designer Juan Duyos seemed to be more inspired by "Golden Girls" than "Gossip Girl" when he cast four models in their 60s to strut his styles down his Madrid Fashion Week catwalk earlier this week.

"I am fed up with seeing 20-year-old models advertise anti-wrinkle creams for women aged 60," he tells London's Metro. "Beauty does not end at 40 or 50."

Duyos, who also describes elderly women as being "just as beautiful as 20-year-olds," used Spanish socialite Eloisa Bercero as one of his models, according to Metro.

"I am moved," she tells the commuter paper. "They have made me feel very important."

And Duyos isn't the only designer to look to seniors as models recently.

British designer Giles Deacon sent 71-year-old legendary German model Veruschka down his runway at London Fashion Week on Sept. 20.

And here's a photographer who prefers to photograph the elderly. Dare we say fashion is having a senior moment?

Thank you so much for coming down to earth. Women do not dissapear after the age of 40, we do not want to see young women advertising things that are for us. Please give us more!!!!

I LOVE this! I am 47, soon to be 48. I too would never buy a damn wrinkle cream advertised by a twenty something "model."

I love the idea of using older models but what's up with the conehead thing? It would look silly on a 20 year old model, but it's downright ridiculous on a mature woman. How about something a little more dignified? Not saying it has to be boring, but a woman can be stylish without being foolish. Love the clothes though, and definitely on board with the whole concept of senior models.

It is good to see Veruschka again! She was an outstanding model.I am 73 now and still long and lanky and turn heads when I enter a room. Why not use the older ladies for the catwalk? Some look spendid!Yes, we are important.Think of all the history we watched being made.

BRAVO, As it is with art, fine wine, and violins...the value and appreciation increases with age. Excellent idea!!!

Amen! I feel we are soul mates. Clothing/fashion was my line of work, mostly at the buying end. It has been frustrating and depressing to watch the downfall, women often being portrayed as teenaged prostitutes on the pages of Vogue and other fashion magazines. Cannot even look at them. Some normality and elegance is long overdue. As for good wine and violins, couldn't agree with you more.

The women are beautiful, the clothes are hideous. I wouldn't walk to the shower in those.

Finally! Someone in the fashion industry that has some brains! To the rest of the world, the REAL world this sort of idea made sense YEARS ago. Why is it now just making sense to the fashion industry? Bottom line is fashion industry doesn't think we, the normal people out there, are smart enough to figure all of this out. That these 17 year olds that weight 75 pounds on the runway are not reality. We've been shouting for years that we're tired of this. It's literally killing models. Let models be REAL ages such as these women and REAL weights.

Couldn't agree with you more. Practically, you took the words out of my mouth. We need to bring the fashion industry back to a human level. And elegance would not hurt.

I agree totally with the designer's mindset that age does not dictate beauty. However, I have to say that Sophia Loren, who is also in her 70's, looks a lot more appealing to me because she still has the curves. Even so, it's very nice to see baby steps being taken in the mindset of designers.

I do not watch fashion shows with the young & arrogant, primpy, stare at me, skin & bones models. I would, however, watch one that interests me that had "real, normal looking, average build, everyday" women. Hats off to this designer with the cahones and inner strength, to let women be women.

These women are not "elderly". That word has a negative connotation. I would say that they are "senior models" because they are beautiful and vibrant. Elderly makes them sound old and feeble.

Sorry, I am a 66 year old woman, but the 20 year olds are better to look at. There is nothing lovely about old skin, old age, old legs, or saggy arms, (that is why they are hiding under sleeves).

Diane wrote - Sorry, I am a 66 year old woman, but the 20 year olds are better to look at. It's time to get real. Maybe you think old skin, etc. is not nice to look at because brainless twits have told us that for so long. It's like mature women should disappear and not want to be attractive and fashionable. That is totally ignorant!!

Now when they start making and designing clothes for real women they will really accomplish someting. Real women do not look like they just escaped from a Nazi concentration camp! They are the majority and they are not size 0 to 2. If these designers had real talent, they would look at the real women of the world and design clothes that look good on curves. Maybe then real women would have better choices and there wouldn't be so many women's photos on the People of Wal Mart website who are squezzed into clothes designed for a bean pole!! Maybe if they had some decent role models and decent choices in clothes, they could develop some sense and dress better. As for you thinking old skin looks bad, hold on honey, cause you'll be there soon enough, or maybe you are already at 66. Do you feel no one wants to look at you because your skin is old and wrinkly
? And if you were a sun worshipper, you'll have it sooner and worse than those of us who aren't.

Come on designers, most of the women who have money to buy your usually overpriced clothes are us real women, and we are older than 20 by the time we get that money, so cough up the decent clothes that we are willing to cough up the money for! And I'm 57, so I know what I'm talking about, and I don't look that old yet. But I would like to dress in clothes that are designed for women, not those bean poles. They NEVER look good when made bigger and put on curves. And before you ask, I am not an obese slob. Just a practical real woman.

Diane sad that you feel this way. you most be very unhappy. I am 67 years old , I dance every day My gym have a class they call ZUMBA= GET ON IT' ask if your town have something like this .It is great. When I ask for the senior discount they usually denied it because I look younger than my age. Maybe because I feel very lucky with my life. I travel on my own and with Grand circle travel group
Please every morning look yourself on the mirror and repeat I FEEL AND LOOK GOOD: I will garanty you that in a month you will not see a saggy wrinkle old lady You will see a great person with lot of wisdom on you.
I agreed halter tops are not necesary but a nice red or black dress with an string of pearls, a good smile and head up look great. I am a volunter with the council of aging.Retired nurse/social worker. Good luck

I am so sorry that you don't see the beauty in yourself or other women aged sixty and above. Just as you were conditioned and taught that young skin, only, is beautiful and desirable, take the time to listen to what others are telling you: beauty is truly in the eye of the beholder. Don't let others define beauty for you. Celebrate "you".

Diane, I'm a 62YO woman and I agree with you: much younger women ARE far more pleasant and attractive to look at in fashion. That's why top designers use them. Anyone who says they "prefer" granny-type models is saying so largely to be politically correct.
