He's clever, he's quirky, and he doesn't like candy (what?!?), yet Barneys New York creative director Simon Doonan is the man when it comes to Halloween costumes.
Doonan was tapped to design Target's Costume Couture collection "because they're geniuses," he tells StyleList. "Halloween is definitely my favorite holiday because it is a time for self-expression and fun. Nobody dreads Halloween. People always feel good about Halloween. It's a great time to express your personal style and your sense of fun."
And it's nearly his birthday, so, "I have a crazy cosmic connection to Halloween because my birthday is on the 30th, almost at midnight."
The costumes -- which include A-List Celebrity, Vegas Vampire, Spaghetti and Meatballs, Candace Corn, and more for men, women, children, and pets -- take their inspiration from fashion.
"I got so much inspiration from the fashion freaks and fabulous divas that were walking around at Fashion Week," he says. "I looked at the costumes through the lens of fashion."
As for that candy glitch, Doonan admits to being a fan of health food.
"I'm that person on the street who has trail mix, apples, almonds -- have some organic almonds. Kids go running from my door saying, 'Don't go to that house -- there's a nutcase with health food!'"
Choose your doorbells wisely, candy lovers.
