Barneys New York creative director Simon Doonan has chosen to go on a culinary journey for the retailer's famed holiday window display. Titled "Have a Foodie Holiday," the windows will feature the "rock stars" of the food world.
One window will highlight the Bad Boys of Food -- Bobby Flay, Emeril Lagasse, and Mario Batali. The Gals of Food will include reigning female chefs Anne Burrell, Paula Deen, Ina Garten, Cat Cora, Sandra Lee, Donatella Arpaia, and Anita Lo. There will also be a Trailblazers window, honoring the creative types stewing together in a giant copper saucepan.
"We feel like the foodie icons are stealing the limelight from the regular red-carpet celebs," Doonan, who is more of an organic foodie, told WWD.
"At Barneys our customers are not really interested in what Kim Kardashian is up to. They are much more interested in Mario Batali and Anthony Bourdain. Food is just as much a part of their landscape as fashion."
The Food Network/Cooking Channel and Illycaffe are partnering with Barneys to reach a broader audience, with the network and its website featuring a time-elapsed version of Doonan designing a holiday window.
