"I'm a member of the New Yorkers for Children family," she told StyleList, referring to the child-welfare charity that was benefiting from the store's shopping event.
"This year I hosted their fall gala, and of course, I'm a huge supporter of Ferragamo," she added. "They sent me a fabulous dress, darling! I mean, I had to show up."
Ebanks joked that the studs on the dress might be enough to stop a bullet. "A lady never knows what protection she needs!"
The beauty experienced homelessness and being placed in foster care herself as a child, when her mother, an immigrant from the Cayman Islands, struggled to raise her and her two siblings.
Ebanks told StyleList of New Yorkers for Children: "Not only do they provide scholarships, but they also provide mentoring and support for these young people. The opportunities will always be there for these children, but we have to make sure that, financially, we support them. They need that support and that push so that they can be successful, regardless of their past."
Elsewhere in the room, beautiful creatures like Fox News personality Kimberly Guilfoyle, W magazine fashion editor Karla Martinez, and host Chiara Ferragamo circulated among the guests. We also spotted former "High Society" reality show subject Tinsley Mortimer, who perhaps had been passing by and was lured in by the flashbulbs.
Ebanks said she was looking forward to a busy fall. "Right now I'm excited for the Kanye West 'Runaway' film, which I'm starring in, and of course the Victoria's Secret Fashion show," she told us.
Not bad for a former foster kid!
