Justin Bieber and Katy Perry are going to have to share the manicure love; OPI has announced it will now pair up with tennis star Serena Williams on a sports-themed nail polish line in addition to lines set to launch at the same time as the two pop stars.
The Glam Slam collection will run in conjunction with the Australian Open (January), French Open (May), Wimbledon (June) and the US Open (August), with two shades debuting with each competition. The fun begins with the upcoming match down under, where Simply Smashing will paint tips in a glowing yellow-vert that bursts with Williams' vibrant sense of style.
Black Shatter top coat is the glitzy accompanying partner -- which will also be featured in Perry's collection -- and is a special effects top coat that leaves behind a leopard print pattern over any nail polish. We can already envision the tennis superstar pairing it with her favorite black lace fingerless glove.
While tennis fans know Williams as the most recent player to hold all four Grand Slam titles to date -- making her only the fifth woman in history to do so -- not many know that the 29 year-old is currently in school studying the art of the mani and pedi. "Everyone knows that I've always loved fashion and design, but they might not know that I'm manic about my nails. I am well on my way to receiving my nail technician license," says Williams.
On yesterday's episode of Oprah, the tennis pro shared that her childhood dream was to work as a nail artist, and that she hopes to launch her own national chain of nail salons in the future. Williams convinced the queen of daytime tv to scrunch up her pants for a one-on-one pedicure, during which the two gabbed about men, money and what it's like to be a celebrity going to nail technician school.
"People in class keep telling me - 'You look like Serena Williams,'" laughed the tennis star. "The other day in the lunchroom, I was like 'If I had a dollar for every time that I heard that.." Williams trailed off, before being interrupted by Oprah. "You know what? I actually think you do have a dollar for every time you hear that!"
And something tells us the nail salon idea Williams is cooking up will bring her even more of those dollar bills.
