With its quirky retro look, accessible prices, and pop star customers, Tuleste Market is quickly becoming one to watch.
Sisters Satu and Celeste Greenberg took the plunge into jewelry making in 2007. Although neither had a formal design background, they shared a passion for revamping vintage baubles.
(Tuleste is a combination of their names and rhymes with "nest.") The self-described former hippie kids now create jewelry seen on stars like newlywed Katy Perry and Rihanna.
The site will be the only place to find the entire collection, with the full range of materials.
Many styles are available in multiple metals, from dark gunmetal to rose-gold tones. Most pieces cost less than $150; all are made in China.
After raking together an archive of mid-20th-century jewelry, the sisters reinvent their favorite elements, often playing with scale.
For example, Celeste bought a tiny silver rosette in Mexico, then blew it up and created a series of necklaces and bracelets with the oversize floral motif.
"We were always collecting and buying vintage clothes and jewelry and reworking things," Celeste says of their early years in small-town northern California. "You're around everything and nothing at the same time... so you develop your own taste."
Satu carefully balances the vintage and modern aspects of the line, aiming for a timelessly chic look.
"We want [our jewelry] to be something people wear now," she tells StyleList. "And then in two or three years, they pick it up and think it looks cool again."

The duo craftily demonstrate how to convert and combine their pieces. Celeste highlights the drop chain at the back of a choker necklace by wearing it in front, then hooks bracelets together to make necklaces. They plan to post videos of such styling tips on the new site.
Next up: a line of women's shoes, launching February 2011.
"We infused a lot of the hardware from the jewelry onto the shoes," reveals Satu. For instance, metal rosettes bloom on ankle straps or at the end of shoelaces.
