The best of the best Marc by Marc Jacobs pieces will be reissued to celebrate the collection's 10-year anniversary.
Expect favorites from both the men's and women's collections -- and we can only hope accessories as well (hello, coveted handbags!). Specifically, women's styles will include the military jacket, military vest, military pants, military skirt, printed t-shirts and the iconic lacquer fruit belts, pins, and necklaces, StyleList has learned. There will be dresses in seven favorite iconic prints from the past 10 years and silk scarves will also be made in a handful of the same chosen prints.
Men's styles will include the military jacket, twill shorts, pants, a handful of T-shirts and short sleeve Oxfords. Nothing in the limited edition collection will cost more than $300 (except for the men's military jacket at $478).
The success of this collection, which gives consumers an entry into the world of Marc Jacobs at contemporary price points, is impressive, especially since Jacobs president Robert Duffy had to fight to get the green light.
"There was a lot of resistance to it," Duffy tells WWD. "I had to pitch it to everybody underneath [parent company LVMH's chairman Bernard Arnault], and everybody said no."
But Duffy finally convinced Arnault.
It seems reissues are all the rage these days. The best of Target's Go International capsules are being rereleased in March 2011, and Derek Lam is creating a collection of his favorites for eBay that will ultimately be edited by the auction site's audience.
Does this mean there's less creativity out there? Or more likely, that retailers, designers, and manufacturers are not willing to walk away from a quick and easy sale of a known entity?
