Thursday evening, designer Alber Elbaz debuted the Lanvin (hearts) H&M collection with a fashion show and party at the Pierre Hotel in New York.
On hand to witness the elaborate style spectacle was Andie MacDowell and her daughter Rainey Qualley in matching Lanvin (hearts) H&M jackets, artist Ahn Duong in Lanvin ready-to-wear, and even designer Anna Sui was in a purple tiered Lanvin frock.
"I'm wearing one of my favorite dresses. I've had this for a few years now," Sui told StyleList. "Alber [Elbaz] does such a sophisticated, grown-up look in a really fun way. It's the first time I've wanted to dress sophisticated."
Elettra Wiedemann, sporting an ankle brace with her platform pumps from a mishap at an earlier dance class, chimed in. "Alber feels that it's so important for women to be comfortable in their own skin. Everyone loves a little black dress, and if your little black dress has a shoulder ruffle, why not?"
Sui was joined in the front row by fellow designers Tory Burch, Alexander Wang, and Proenza Schouler's Lazaro Hernandez and Jack McCollough, who admitted this was only the second fashion show they'd witnessed in person (Martin Margiela was first). Celebrities like MacDowell, Sofia Coppola, and Emma Roberts also filled out the front-row seats.
The action on the catwalk was highly styled, over-the-top Lanvin at its best. The pretty Lanvin (hearts) H&M party frocks were customized and paired with bold hosiery, accessories, and teased-to-the-ceiling upswept hairdos.
Models, including Asia Chow, Pixie Geldof, Dree Hemingway, Olga, and Anna Dello Russo, were sent down the catwalk with assigned "roles" they acted out, making for a very entertaining presentation. All the while, Elbaz watched from stage right, laughing along with the audience.
The charming designer shared that "meeting all of you here tonight and making all of you happy" was the best part of his collaboration with H&M. As for the collection, "I don't have any favorites -- I hate it all and I love it all."
And if this crowd's behavior is any indication, this collection will be a sellout in no time flat. Guests were given cards with a set time to enter the pop-up shop that opened just for the evening. Even still, they were fighting to make their way in.
The rest of us will have to wait until the Lanvin (hearts) H&M collection hits stores in the U.S. and Canada Nov. 20 and H&M stores in the rest of the world Nov. 23.
