Pronounced (keen-wah), some hair care manufacturers are now keen for this healthy protein.
Quinoa is a grain-like plant grown in the mountains and harvested for its seeds. It is rich in protein, iron, potassium and other vitamins and minerals. It is also a good source of dietary fiber and is easily digested.
So what are these healthy seeds doing in haircare?
Because Quinoa is jam-packed with tons of hydrolyzed protein – one of the highest available from a plant source, it is thought to be an ideal component for shampoos, conditioners and styling products.
And we all know that our hair loves protein!
Protein binds to the hair shaft and penetrates the cortex which helps to strengthen the hair. Essentially, it works to repair your strands from the inside out. Plus, it contains amino acids which are building blocks to help create healthier hair.
Nexxus has recently launched a new product line -- Phyto Organics ChromaLife Colour Retention System -- with quinoa and we're anxious to try it out. The products contain a blend of ingredients that protect hair color and prevent fading. And they claim to maintain the color of your dyed locks up to five times longer than ordinary shampoos and conditioners.
Fewer trips to the salon for color -- wouldn't that be nice for our hard-earned cash!
The new Nexxus product line includes Colour Lock Shampoo, $18, Colour Lock Conditioner, $20, Colour Lock Treatment, $24 and Firm Hold Shine Spray, $16.
