According to CBS News, medical examiners have said that the autopsy conducted on Cachay was inconclusive, and that they will have to wait on tissue and toxicology tests to get more answers about her tragic death.
Cachay's ex-boyfriend Nicholas Brooks, who Cachay's parents believe killed her, spoke with detectives yesterday and is still being held against his lawyer's wishes due to the ongoing investigation. Brooks is the son of Oscar-winning songwriter Joseph Brooks, who was arrested last year for a series of sexual assaults.
It was reported that Cachay had red marks on her neck and collarbone and a bite mark on her hand when she was found floating face up in a bathtub filled with water inside a room a the hotel at approximately 3 a.m. on Thursday morning. After complaints of water leakage on other floors, the hotel staff discovered Cachay's body.
Surveillance videos at the hotel show Brooks going in and out of the hotel after the two checked in. He was inside the room from 1:45 to 2:16 a.m., before leaving to go eat with a friend, only to return at 3:30 a.m. and be told of Cachay's death.
Cachay's heartbroken parents told the New York Post that their daughter never took baths and that Cachay told them over Thanksgiving that she was planning on breaking up with Brooks.
The Post also reports that Cachay and Brooks checked into a room at the Soho House around 12 a.m. after Brooks allegedly set an accidental fire, that they later put out, in Cachay's Greenwich Village apartment.
The designer, who arrived woozy from Xanax and had to be helped to her room, complained to the hotel's staff about Brooks.
"He's a stoner," she reportedly said, referring to the fire that alledgedly set some of her bed and hair ablaze. "He's always stoned. Who puts candles behind the bed?"
