While the diminutive musician may be short in stature, he's big on style! So in honor of his "Welcome 2 America" tour kicking off this month, take a jaunt down memory lane for Prince's endearingly eccentric beauty evolution.
Prince Beauty Evolution
As a student at Central High School in Minneapolis, the budding musician sported an Afro that's indicative of the era. One look at those soulful eyes and it's no surprise that this young man would produce music that would touch millions across the globe.
While on the second leg of his "Controversy" tour in 1982, Prince kept his thick mane lengthy and full of texture, while opting for funky formalwear onstage.
Making his feature film debut in "Purple Rain" in 1984, Prince, seen here with Apollonia, rocked a head of luscious curls.
For his role in 1986's "Under the Cherry Moon" as a money-scamming swindler who enjoys the finer things in life, Prince opts for a slicked back 'do and skinny 'stache.
For a distinctly different look in "Under the Cherry Moon," His Royal Badness leaves his locks loose and curly, accessorizing with a wide-brimmed hat and midriff-baring bolero.
"Graffiti Bridge", the sequel to "Purple Rain," put Prince back in the character of the Kid, but this time a little bit older, a little bit wiser, and with a lot more facial hair and lengthier, sleek strands. The performer also went bold on the guy-liner.
In 1998, during the era in which he was known as the Artist and was using a symbol instead of his name in a political move against his old record label Warner Bros., the musician opted for a shorter, shaggy cut and colored his mane a lighter, chestnut hue.
At a 1999 red carpet event in London with ex-wife Mayte Garcia, Prince shows off a coif so full of volume it would make even Snooki jealous.
In May 2004, after dropping the symbol as his name and returning to Prince, he's looking dapper with a return to shorter, tidier hair and a relatively clean-shaven face.
Just a few months later, in July 2004, while performing at the 10th Anniversary Essence Music Festival in New Orleans, Prince mixes things up again and works a tightly curled look while donning a fabulously funky red suit.
