Short dresses and flirty skirts feel festive this time of year, but it's just too cold to let your gams go bare. So we enlisted the help of Sonya Cosentini, Marshalls and T.J.Maxx style expert, for some stylish advice on working this season's hottest legwear trends.

1. Give your LBD an instant update: "With so many styles to choose from -- everything from neutrals to bold colors, prints to solids and even knits, tights can add a whole new look to outfits a woman already has in her closet. Try plaid tights in reds for a festive, fun look, or a textured, solid pattern in black for a more sophisticated touch. Over-the-knee tights are also popular and edgy, and are worn with knee-high boots, pumps, skirts and dresses."

2. Look to leggings. "Leggings are another great option that can add a comfortable, yet stylish touch for a holiday party. Faux leather or denim-inspired leggings are great to pair with a flowy, embellished top, detailed ankle booties and a fabulous clutch for a cocktail party."

3. Embrace color. "We've seen jewel tones, such as deep purples, greens and reds, which can add a pop of color under solid-hued dresses, skirts and even shorts if one wants to revive their summer wardrobe. Textured, solid tights in black and gray also add a touch of unique style to an office party look. Plaids and other prints are also fun, and when found in the right colors or even with metallic inspirations, can be fabulous nods to the holidays."

4. Plan the whole ensemble. "If going for a bold look, keep the rest of the outfit subdued. If trying a neutral color like a black or gray, try popping the tights with color throughout the rest of the look."
