Gap Channels the '70s With New Jeans Styles

Gap
obviously has a New Year's resolution to offer shoppers something new in the denim department. True to its promise, the retailer has delivered.

Make sure to look out for the new High Rise Trouser (with a 7 5/8-inch front rise on a sample size 6) and the Sexy Boot Jean, which fits similar to a denim legging up top and breaks lower than Gap's basic bootcut style.

Also, this style offers a slightly slimmer leg opening and has a lower rise and squared-off waist. Both new styles are hitting Gap stores and Gap.com this month. Each of these styles channels the '70s, when waistbands sat higher on the body and leg openings were much more generous.

According to a statement from Gap's executive vice president of design, Patrick Robinson, the decade has an important influence on the Spring 2011 season as a whole, hence the reason for these updated styles. "To enhance the sophistication of the look, you can pair it with a fitted button-down blouse or a light washed-denim shirt," he suggests.

The new styles retail from $69.50 to $79.50 and each is available in an array of washes to choose from -- there's even a clean white wash, which you'll want to scoop up for summer.

Oh gosh....talk about nostalgia! I loved this style in the 70's however I may be just a tad too old now but I may take a wag at them anyway!! lol

Love the jeans, just wish they would use models that filled them out properly. Instead, they used girls who look like they are wearing their moms jeans with tool long legs and baggy crothces. Its a shame.

I agree with Carrie, the jeans look sloppy on both models. Use real women with curves and show how a pair of tight fittin' bell bottoms SHOULD look!

The price is ridiculous. American slaves to the name brand. It's a pity that people buy strictly for style and not for function. Oooh! Look at me! I'm so in with my fashion clothes and other expensive garbage.

Oh yea! They're still around though, but have taken on more of the skinny style since they are part of the Frankie B brand, but the classic Dittos are still in production.

I love the flares. I don't like the low riders. If they put higher waist
on those flares I'd be in them all the time. As it is...I'm stuck with straight legged jeans or boot cut because I cannot wear those low riders.

Another thing I wish....OH HOW I WISH...that they would take the pockets OFF THE BACK of ladies jeans ! At least give us a choice ! I like bare backs and it's impossible to find them. I don't need hip pockets!

PLEASE....IF YOU DESIGNERS ARE LISTENING....THERE ARE MANY OF US 'OLDER LADIES' WHO WOULD LOVE TO WEAR THE FLARES BUT NEED THEM AT OUR WAIST LINES....NOT ON OUR HIPS! AND....IF YOU CARE....WE ALL DON'T NEED OR WANT FOUR OR FIVE POCKETS !

HERE'S HOPING SOMEONE SITS UP AND TAKES NOTE.

Check out J Brand...they have some nice high-waisted flare jeans. They are not cheap but they are an amazing quality that will last you a LOOOONG time.

I suppose they put that stinky SPANDEX in those new jeans. We didn't wear ANY spandex in the 70's. BOO HISS to SPANDEX in JEANS!

Better than rigid (non-stretch) jeans that stretch out and sag with wear...I find the spandex to keep their shape a lot better.

They can copy the seventies look all they want, but they'll never get it right. We lived in our jeans. We wore then to shreds for years after paying a few bucks for them new. Today's women spend over a hundred dollars on jeans with holes and freyed edges trying to copy our look. SO FUNNY!!!! The great thing about the seventies was the trend of getting back to natural fabrics instead of polyester and nylon. We had blouses in linens, rayon, wool and cotton with great embroidery. Jeans were made of denim instead of stretchy tighter-than-your-skin SPANDEX (hate that stuff). You can't put your jeans in the dryer when they have SPANDEX in them because they shrink.

Women liked their clothing loose and comfortable while still being feminine. Todays women and girls wear clothes so tight it makes them look like ten pounds of sausage stuffed in a three pound casing, camel toe and all. Their look is not trendy. It's cheap and trashy. When I see a girl's thong sticking out from the back of her jeans I want to puke on her tramp stamp. Any company that brings back REAL JEANS for women will have my business. I suspect this one won't be it.

I know a lot of people won't like this, but i'm a 56 year old woman who has a 23 inch waist and a 31 inch hip line. I've been a type 1 juvenile diabetic for about 42 years and have a lot of complications, so I can't seem to gain wight, although i'd like to. I was a child of the sixties and grew up in the seventies, so I remember the jeans back then and loved them. The manufacturers still can't get it right. Most people wore longer lenght jeans that actually frayed at the bottom of the legs and not all of them were hip huggers. some of them had high waists and smaller hips for young girls and women. All I can find now in my size are girl's jeans that are too short and the rises are ridiculous, especially on a woman with no hips to keep them up. The smallest I can find is a double zero size, and although it has a 23 or 24 inch waist, the hips are 34 or 35. I look like a clown wearing these and can't keep them up. They are also about 100 or more dollars a pair.
The sizes have changed also in the last 30 years. What used to be a 3 is now a 0 size and all I have to wear now is a pair of jeans I found packed away from 1981 called ATB (Anthony's tops and bottoms) which went out of business years ago, and was a size one that just fits. If anyone knows where I can find small jeans with very small hips and 34 length with a boot cut leg , that sit at the waist and has a decent price, PLEASE HELP ME!

I'm a small older woman too. With a 22" waist and 32" hips I'm shopping in the girls' department at the age of 53. It's useless for me to debate the merits of Gap's new jeans styles since nothing in the store will fit me. Even their double zero is too big for me.

I was the same size in the seventies and I wore a junior size five. I had plenty of choices back then.

I sincerely wish the clothing manufacturers had not changed their sizes in order to cater to the overweight, because when they did small women like myself were left out of the loop.
