When it comes to walking the red carpet, one can rarely go wrong with a short and sparkly frock.

A few celebrities at the 2011 People's Choice Awards put this theory to the test, starting with one of the biggest stars of the night, Kim Kardashian, who ditched her standard one-shouldered body-hugging mini-dresses for, well, a body-hugging strapless dress covered in delicate gold foil by Catherine Malandrino. (Guess she didn't care that Drew Barrymore and Mary J. Blige have already stepped out in the exact same frock, although longer versions).

Sister Kourtney Kardashian also went for the gold (and strapless), albeit a less glitzy version. The 31-year-old reality star and new mother, who recently told OK! Magazine that she's currently in the best shape of her life, showed off her post-baby bod in burnished gold dress that was partially obscured by a thick cream-colored scribble-pattern overlay.

House star Lisa Edelstein, on the other hand, settled for silver with a strapless cocktail dress by Farah Angsana that was intricately embroidered with in floral patterns.

Meanwhile, singer-actress Cassie Scerbo spiced her metallics up a bit by donning a itsy bitsy mini dress with a colorful swirling pattern made even more vibrant with the sequins that lit it up.
