Over the weekend, a plethora of Hollywood heavy hitters walked the red carpet for the 22nd annual Palm Springs International Film Festival awards gala wearing some interesting fashion choices.

While award winners like Natalie Portman and Carey Mulligan went for short and sweet, we were taken away by Dame Helen Mirren's mermaid-like purple lace gown by Zac Posen. "It's so old, it's practically vintage," she revealed to Fashion Rules.

The 65-year-old was there to present the Desert Palm Achievement Actor award to Colin Firth. She accessorized her fanciful frock with diamond-and-onyx earrings and bangles and a black shrug.

The daring actress -- she posed nude for New York magazine this past summer -- has inspired women over 60 to embrace fashion more than ever. (Of course, this excludes her Little Red Riding Hood ensemble from last week.)
