Golden Globes fashion lesson for this year: Be yourself.

The bombshells who dressed as bombshells -- Sofia Vergara, Angelina Jolie and Eva Longoria -- looked beautiful, stunning even.

The young starlets who dressed with a youthful flair -- Elisabeth Moss, Anne Hathaway, most of the cast of "Glee" -- looked just right too.

But then there were those who tried too hard. Or wore an elaborate dress that competed with big hair -- Scarlett Johansson and Christina Hendrix, we're looking at you. It's not that they weren't beautiful. It's just that it was all a little much.

And not to spend too much time on that topic, but Natalie Portman's hotly anticipated walk on the red carpet left us a little cold, too. Such a pretty Viktor & Rolf dress, but was that rose supposed to detract from her pregnant belly?

But enough of that. Who did we love? Some of the talk around our table:

* "I love how Julia Stiles added glamour to her bob with loose curls. And I love how instead of going with a typical red lip she wore a pink lip color." -- Dana Oliver, acting beauty editor

* "January Jones. It was the red carpet, she wore a red dress and she had a red pout." -- Sarah St. Lifer, intern

* "Elisabeth Moss. Can I have her hair?" -- Bernadette Sheridan, photo editor

* "Giuliana Ransic. She looked cute and she wore two dresses." -- Ben Widdicombe, celebrity editor

Golden Globes 2011

Angelina Jolie was on trend in this long-sleeved Atelier Versace beaded gown and matching Salvatore Ferragamo green satin peep toe pumps.

Golden Globes 2011

What break up? Eva Longoria wore a form-fitting gown with gorgeous train and Neil Lane jewels plus a matching clutch.

Golden Globes 2011

Newly single Scarlett Johanson went with a romantic pale pink/peach gown with floral applique and embroidery details from Elie Saab and Art Deco Van Cleef & Arpels jewels.

Golden Globes 2011

Clair Danes looked sleek in a custom Calvin Klein Collection neon silk halter dress, Fred Leighton drop earrings and gold cuff.

Golden Globes 2011

Kelly Osbourne, the latest member of E! Fashion Police, looked lovely in this Zac Posen gown from the Spring 2011 collection. She added Casadei peep-toe pumps and Kimberly McDonald jewels. But her updo made her look a little old for her age.

Golden Globes 2011

Helen Mirren looked spectacular in a champagne-hued gown and alluring Cartier diamond necklace with over 55 carats.

Golden Globes 2011

"Black Swan" mommy-to-be Natalie Portman showed off her baby bump in a Viktor & Rolf frock with hand-embroidered Swarovski crystal red rose and Tiffany & Co. jewels.

Golden Globes 2011

Jennifer Lopez would've fit right in at Studio 54 in this Zuhair Murad gown with matching box clutch, Harry Winston jewels and silver eyeshadow.

Golden Globes 2011

"Tron" star Olivia Wilde wore this glittery Marchesa frock with a pair of seriously cool Christian Louboutin heels. (You'll just have to trust us!) Love her straight hair and blunt bangs!

Golden Globes 2011

Nominated for best supporting actress in TV series, mini-series, or made-for-TV movie for her role in "Dexter," Julia Stiles was old Hollywood glamour in this one-shouldered dress. And her curly bob hairstyle and pink lipstick rounded out her glamorous look.

I find it to be nothing short of a travesty for a stylist to put their client in many of the looks that I saw last night. Looking great when you have the means to do so is very simple whether you are a size 0 or a size 10. If you’re feeling particularly lazy: find a designer that has fit you well in the past, pick the best look from their current runway collection, and literally cut and paste!

But perhaps my favorite let down was Julianna Marguiles:

Earth to Julia- "If you're going to steal something from the Global Globe, make it a Golden Globe, not a table cloth!!- Geesh...

I get tired of the praise to Angelina Jolie-she looks fine, nothing great, she put on a green dress, what's so exciting? HATED that ugly dress and stupid rose thing on Natalie (although I think she seems like a lovely person). Whomever styled Michelle Williams and ANY of her staff or friends whom let her wear that ugly, horrible dress, that also didn't even FIT her; needs to be FIRED immediately. Amy Adams looked fresh and beautiful, the best I have EVER seen her look, Mandy Moore too, beautiful and fresh. Disappointed in Nicole Kidman, (even though she's always gorgeous), SUCH an uninteresting choice. Eva Longoria DID look gorgeous, I would have loved her look even more if her dress was ANY color but black; get some balls dear! Helena just clearly needs to be taken to a mental health facility. Don't like January Jones look AT ALL, sorry, she looked like a transvestite-the framed-boob-thing, ugly! Anne Hathway, YES! I think, she really was the only one who really WOWED. I thought in general it was a bit dull of a year, to be honest, but who cares what I think! :) I'll read your opinions too!! Ha!
