"Pretty Little Liars" star Shay Mitchell is pulling double duty -- acting in the hit ABC Family drama and flipping her shiny, raven locks to promote Pantene's Nature Fusion line of products.

StyleList caught up with the Canadian-born actress to get the scoop on what she does to keep her tresses looking so fabulous and on her recent shoe splurge to celebrate the success of her series (what can we say, she's a girl after our own heart!).

StyleList: What's your best hair tip?
Shay Mitchell: Well I would say the one that I like to do is add moisture. For a shampoo and conditioner, I would suggest Nature Fusion Pantene Moisture Balance. That's honestly the shampoo and conditioner that I use because my hair gets so dried out from being on set. So something that puts the moisture back in it.

StyleList: How does it feel to be the new spokeswoman for Pantene?
S.M.: It still feels so surreal. I've grown up with this product. My mom has it in her shower right now. I've always used Pantene, honestly, and the fact that now I'm kind of the face, or rather the hair, for them... it's insane. I can talk about the product naturally because I've used it. I know what they have out there and I know why it works. A lot of people think I do this magical thing to my hair and ask, "How'd you get it like that?" and I'm like go to your drugstore and pick it up because you can buy it there. It's very, very cool and I'm so looking forward to working with them this year.

StyleList: Have you learned anything about styling your hair from the team you work with on "Pretty Little Liars?"
S.M.: I would say that using a little bit of mousse to volumize it really keeps your hair lifted, especially when we shoot for so long it tends to go flat and it doesn't look like it did in the first scene. They've also given us a lot of neat hair tools, like a curling iron by Enzo Milano. You just wrap your hair around it -- there's no clamp. That's another really cool thing that we all have now.

StyleList: What's your best cheap beauty find?
S.M.: Cover Girl Lash Blast Mascara -- I don't go anywhere without it. It's my absolute favorite. Another thing I use is Cetaphil face wash. I'm a drugstore junkie. I don't buy anything that's very expensive beauty-wise.

StyleList: What's your favorite item of clothing in your closet right now?
S.M.: A gift to myself was the red-soled Christian Louboutin shoes. I'm totally obsessed with those.

StyleList: What did it mean for you to splurge on a pair of Louboutins?
S.M.: It's something that I've always wanted and to be able to buy it for myself -- I'm very big on that. You can get a lot of gifts, but when you purchase something with your hard-earned money, it's a whole different story. You appreciate it that much more. Getting to go into the store and say, "OK, today's the day!" The woman looked at me like I was crazy because I was like, "Take a photo!" We work really, really hard and I'm not going crazy at all but sometimes you have to enjoy life. I'm all about living like it's your last day.

Did you ever go through a bad hair period?
S.M.: My hair is naturally wavy and when I was younger it was very thick. At the time I didn't have a straightening iron or anything, so my best friend in the entire world, who is actually still my best friend, would iron my hair on an ironing board. One time I said, "Turn it up, it's not getting hot." So she did and all of a sudden I asked, "What's that smell?" My hair had all fallen off in chunks on the side of the iron. I freaked out. I didn't know what to do. Luckily I had thick hair but it was very traumatic having my hair on an iron and seeing it there, and the smell of burnt hair is so bad.

StyleList: "Pretty Little Liars" has been picked up for a second season -- what would you like to see happen to your character?
S.M.: I'm so happy that Emily has that weight lifted off of her by coming out to her father and I just hope that everyone else is just as accepting as they should be. I want Emily to be totally herself and be able to walk into a room and do whatever she wants and walk in with whomever she wants and to feel comfortable. She's a great character to play and I'm so excited.
