21 Drops Launches Therapeutic Essential Oils Line

21 Drops, named for the 21 ailments of modern life the line addresses, is a collection of therapeutic-grade essential-oil blends that are sustainably sourced, 100 percent natural and organically or wildly grown.
Addressing health issues that run the gamut from indigestion to sleeplessness to headache and menopause, the blends also offer balance for a multitude of emotional states, like heartbreak, depression, distraction and feelings of helplessness.
The mixtures are based on ancient Eastern plant-based healing methods, which the brand says are combined with a modern holistic understanding of how the body and mind work.
Yet, co-founder and blend architect Cary Caster says the biggest misconception about aromatherapy is that Western consumers don't believe something you smell can have such a profound affect on your health.
"People think it's snake oil -- they say, 'How can it really work?' They don't know that modern medicine came from it. Aspirin was modeled after white willow bark. People even revert back to traditional healing methods like hot tea and lemon and chicken soup when they just can't kick that cold, because our bodies recognize these ingredients and are healed and comforted by them," Caster tells StyleList.
Starting her career at the Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden in Coral Gables, Fla., Caster supplemented her love of plants and a botany degree with continuing studies in medicinal and herbal plants, as well as Eastern healing practices.
Having long treated her own sniffling children and overstressed, rundown family and friends, Caster finally brought the formulas to the marketplace with the birth of the 21 Drops brand, now only two months old.

"There's a psychological barrier you have to get through first, because people carry preconceived notions about aromatherapy. But people will wear masks because they know inhaling toxic scents can very quickly make you sick, yet they don't realize something you inhale could just as equally heal you," says Rosenthal.
Each glass roller-ball tube comes cushioned in a colorful easy-grip holder that makes the 8.5-milliliter blends easy to throw in a handbag or zip into a pocket. The packaging is eco-consciously created, though delicately crafted, with raised-texture designs and graphics inked uniquely to each scent's fully recyclable box.
And with choices made to pacify 21 of life's most common stumbling blocks, we just had to give one a try.
The Abstain product is designed to negate insatiable cravings, whether chocolate, Starbucks or your other not-necessarily-gastric sin of choice. (We thought it sounded too good to be true.)
After a particularly strong craving for sweet raisin-cinnamon buns wafted our way, we applied the droplet blend of oils of cardamom seed, grapefruit and juniper to our wrists, underneath our nose, and to the side and back of the neck as the box instructs.
The subtle oils first soothed us, and then a prick of the cardamom spice surprised us with its fresh pureness. As the oil dried down and we enjoyed the fresh energy of the citrus, we realized we were totally distracted and re-centered from the original haze of sugar-longing.
We're intrigued, and that cheerful pink Abstain tube has already found a permanent place in our purse, where it has become the first line of defense to all things sweet, carby and dangerous.
You can view the full collection of concoctions online at 21Drops.com, where each blend retails for $28. You can also have a custom blend put together by Caster for a premium.
The peace of mind? Priceless.
And if you're adding essential oils to your cabinet, check out the new toothpastes that boast the ingredient.
