20 Inch Nails: Atlanta Woman Grows Fingernails In Attempt to Meet Oprah

The world is filled with talented artists, entertainers, writers, designers and speakers. The list goes on and on.

And then there are those who are talented at growing their fingernails.

Like Jazz Ison Sinkfield, a grandmother from Atlanta, Georgia, who told news station WTSP that her nails, the longest of which reaches 24 inches, are "a gift and a talent, too, because it's something that everyone cannot do."

In an effort to meet Oprah Winfrey "and a lot of more celebrities," she's been letting her nails grow wild for the past 22 years.

For basic maintenance, she spends at least five hours and $250 at the salon each month and her extremely long nails limit her from performing daily tasks, like tying her shoes, typing on the computer, and taking off her jewelry. And they even appear to make a simple handshake a tedious feat.

Sinkfield considers her life's work to be "a fashion statement" and, although we agree that they make a statement, we're not sure just how fashionable those curling, terrifying talons may be.

Check out the elaborately decorated nail trend that that has worked its way from Hollywood into small town salons!

And watch the video below on one-of-a-kind manicures shaped like duck feet!

Anyone can do it, they just apply akrylic (sp) every month by the galon...and if your are fat and lazy with nothing to do but have hard working folk wait on you hand and foot, that is no God given gift, it is an insult to Him and Us!

I would imagine she has a bidet....(hope so anyway) but how can she even take a shower or wash her hair? How can she change clothes? She must have people who bathe her and do everything for her. She clearly can't work so where does she get the money for the nail treatment every month and to pay her bills and pay people to service her?? She must have inherited a huge sum of money.....and just sits around growing fingernails. A gift from god my foot!!!!!! And wants to meet Oprah and be famous.....I just can't bear to continue.

Knowing Oprah,as I have watched her since the beginning, she won`t give her the time of day. She doesn`t deserve it.

Personbaly I think its stupid. Does not look attractive. How in the he!! can she do daily and personal tasks? Meeting Oprah well she may laugh at her. What a waist of $250.00. That could be to a better use. Like helping out the homeless, helping out animal shelters with that money. I guess she wares the same clothes cant change them...get a life lady cut those damm nails, be a better person and grandmother.

That looks so nasty! There are so many personal things she has to have someone do for her as I know she couldn't with those nasty looking claws. Growing fingernails is not a talent nor is it a gift. It is just someone who is looking for 15 minutes of fame and is willing to look stupid to do it.

Thank you gjb for putting the personal hygiene thing more delicately than most of the other bloggers. It's refreshing to see tasteful responses. I sure wouldn't want to eat anything she cooked.

Youre right..15 minutes of fame for a 22 years of mucheing off other people, having people wait on you hand and foot, and not being able to do normal things that normal people do for those 22 years...too bad she can't invest her life to something worth while rather than having everyone think that she is and IDIOTIC FREAK and talk about her behind her back and tell her how great she for doing that....Just when you seen it all along comes someone to show you that you haven't...

That is absolutely DISGUSTING!!! When I first saw her nails, I was about to throw up! How the hell is that a gift??! More like a curse!! And no woman in her RIGHT MIND would want nasty nails like that! that creeps me out...

I don't see this as a "talent" as she puts it - but scooching across the carpet to wipe her bottom like a dog does is certainly a talent.

Disgusting. I would also like to know how she manages to have the money to pay to "care" for them (if you can call it that) and people to do things for her when she clearly can't do anything with them that way! I wouldn't help someone like this I would say get a real life you have no reason to not be able to do things for yourself just so you can have these horrible looking nails. Please do NOT let her on Oprah this is the dumbest story i've seen lately.

Ohh My! This is truely one of the most disgusting things I have ever seen in my entire life! I have been told my entire life that my long (But in no way this ghastly long!) nails are "gross". My nails are about a half inch shorter than nails people pay for. I don't see anything wrong with slightly longer than the tip of your finger nails. Does anyone agree? Or is it truely "gross". Mind you, my nails do not keep me from functioning in ANY way! I maintain a job; and err...hygeine. I ask because the same ones who don't like my natural healthy salon looking nails; are also the ones who pay for their nails to look like mine. When I asked why they can have plastic on top of their natural nail; and it be okay. Well it was different because those were done "professionally". A crock if you ask me. Anyway this got long...But seriously are natural half inch from tip of finger nails gross as well?

I'm speechless! There is virtually nothing (almost, but that's probably the answer to how she can afford to live so well) she can do to earn her keep in this world. She must be in that crowd who voted for Obama and expected he would meet her rent, food and clothing needs.
