Dear StyleList,

Greetings from Atlanta, our cosmopolitan city in the South. Given the diversity of Atlanta's culture, it comes as no surprise that new trends are met with open arms and a keen sense of how to express individuality with style.

Hair: Hair with a wavy wash-and-go look is in now, which makes sense given our fast-paced lifestyle. Women want time to reap the benefits of their hard work and spending even 15 minutes a day with a flat-iron seems, dare we say it- flat! "Atlanta women are opting for natural 'messy' looks like the undone ponytail that sits just a couple inches above the nape of the neck with no regard to the perfectly polished look of the typical ponytail," says Audrey St. Clair, owner and stylist at Studio One Salon in Atlanta. Longer hair is a taking a break from stick straight styling and women are twisting their hair into casual chignons that can go from the grocery store to the red carpet all in the same day."Casual up-dos that break the rules of tidy perfection are popular now," says Joseph and Friends stylist, Mallory Morelock."

Eyes: It's all about the lashes. Eyes are sporting lengthening mascara that picks up every little lash for a detailed application. The payoff is getting to skip the eyeliners and heavy shadows that have made the smoky eye a fashion fire hazard.

Lips: Lips are taking a backseat to eyes this season as bold lip color takes a break. Think neutral pinks and beiges, not purple and dark red. Atlanta women also seem to have tossed the gloss for nude, matte finished lips with a touch of Chapstick for added moisture.

Nails: Natural is in on our fingertips, too. Fingernails are shorter and painted with softened tones of gray or beige. Acrylic nails are out, or as they say in Georgia, "gone with wind".

"Lately" in Atlanta doesn't last long, but right now the appreciation for "au naturel" is showing up in everything from the cars we drive to the makeup we use.

Love,
Kristen
