"Red is a new color in my life!" said Eve, moments after her first Red Dress fitting at designer David Meister's New York studio.

The musician and actress will be taking the runway tomorrow night at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week for the Heart Truth's Red Dress Collection fashion show, which stars other famous catwalkers like Suzanne Somers, who spoke to StyleList on the weekend.

"I am so nervous!" Eve laughed of her debut on the runway. "Give me a mic and some music, fine. But walking down a runway -- I'm getting butterflies right now! My mom said to go to a model and get some tips, and I'm like, 'I'm definitely not going to try and be a model.' We'll see what happens!"

Luckily, all's well with the dress. Meister, who has dressed Eve in the past, sent her several sketches for the red dress in question. "She said she wanted something long and elegant but something form-fitting and sexy," Meister said.

Eve picked her favorite -- a one-shoulder mermaid gown with beading -- and it fits like a glove. "It rocks on her. It just works," said the designer. "What's great for me is when a woman puts on a dress and they smile. She put on that dress and she was totally smiling. She loved it. You know you've hit a home run then!"

"I just said when I had the dress on, 'I want to go to a ball!'" Eve laughed. "His dresses just make you feel very elegant and very ladylike. I guess after the show, I'll have to crash somebody's ball!"

The 2011 Red Dress Collection fashion show is Eve's first connection with the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute -- which through the Heart Truth show raises awareness of heart disease in women -- but she's taking her responsibilities as an ambassador of all things red very seriously.

"I've been wearing red lipstick, buying red scarves -- it's a great accent color. I'm usually just in black, white and gray, but there are so many shades of red -- and any woman can wear red."

Her advice to ladies looking to sport the shade? "Find what's comfortable for you," she said. "It may be a scarf, it may be nail polish, it may be lipstick. Please find the right shade of lipstick, though, because you can embarrass yourself!"

Of course, Heart Truth is not just about a fabulous red dress. "A lot of women don't know a lot about it. I didn't know a lot about heart disease," Eve admitted. "It's the number one killer of women, and that's a very scary thing. I don't smoke, but I did when I was younger, and to hear that that's the kind of stuff that contributes to heart disease, it's scary."

"And to be able to walk in a beautiful dress to raise awareness for heart disease, why not?" she continued. "If it's something I can do to educate even just the women in my family, I think it's a great thing."

For Meister, heart disease is an issue that's also close to his heart. "My grandfather had his first heart attack at 39," the designer said. "Women know their shoe size, they know their dress size, but they don't know the numbers related to the health of their heart."

The Heart Truth's Red Dress Collection show will take place Wednesday, Feb. 9 at Lincoln Center.
