THE SCOOP: Sol LeWitt's geometric sculptures and drawings inspired Nicole Miller's latest Fall-Winter 2011 collection, which was a play on shapes as well as color with a blending of dark hues, particularly gray and black.
MAC Cosmetics senior artist James Kaliardos brought the sharp lines and shapes to the face with a slightly geometric smoky eye to create a blocked look, but still pretty. "It's all about healthy skin, with a peachy-cream blush and new MAC beige-y lipstick," Kaliardos explained of the look, while he combined shades of gray and silver on the eye and peach and beige on the cheeks and lips.
Rsession Tools stylist Kevin Ryan shared, "Nicole knows what she likes and wants, and it's nice to collaborate with someone who knows what they want"; which resulted in a look that is "futuristic with a rock 'n' roll vibe, but not at all slick." The hair evolved into something shiny on the top and dry on the ends, a trend that has been emerging this season.
For nails, T.J. Kelly from Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics custom-mixed a color for Nicole Miller, dubbed "elephant gray." "Grays and beiges are the new neutrals," declared Kelly, who shared that this particular shade, which had a touch of shimmer, will go into production for Fall 2011.
GET THE LOOK - MAKEUP: All cosmetics by MAC. Start with the Complete Comfort Creme Moisturizer and Face + Body Foundation to conceal where needed and to accentuate. Also use the Select Moisturecover Concealer all over eyelid to hold the eye shadow -- tap it on to set it in. Kaliardos says to start at the base and work your way up to create a true smoky eye; add the Pro Longwear eye shadow from the lid to the crease in Keep Your Cool, and then layering the Lady Grey, a slick silver shade, being sure to place along lash line and a dash of it on the top lid with a Q-tip, swiping it in quick motions, slightly "erasing the smoke" of the base color. Finish the eye with the Hot & Naughty Lash mascara just on the top. Highlight and sculpt the cheek with Cheek Matte Cream Colour Base. Last, line the lips with What Comes Natural lip pencil and swipe on the lips Lush Amber lipstick.
GET THE LOOK - HAIR: All products from Catwalk by TIGI. Start with the Root Boost Spray Mousse, flatiron, blow-dry, flatiron again and add in the TIGI Spray Shine on the top of the head. Come through with a wide-tooth comb, so that it distributes the product and doesn't leave in any oil. Next, spray in Sleek Mystique all over, except the crown of the head where Spray Shine was used, particularly saturating the ends.
