Behind the scenes at Derek Lam's Fall 2011 fashion show, hair was smoothed into a streamlined shape with tons of shine, and eyes were painted into sharp lines with deep charcoal and metallic gray tones.

THE SCOOP: Derek Lam continued to dazzle with a collection of architectural shapes with a feminine touch. Decidedly sleek hair paired with a sultry eye reflected the fashion's deliberate lines, while nude lips and ethereal skin provided a softer contrast.

"I wanted the eyes to be really iconic," said Pecheux. "They're sophisticated, minimal and luxurious all at the same time." An "exaggerated cat-eye shape" created with charcoal and black powder in metallic and shimmer finishes added drama to an otherwise minimal face, brightened with a dash of highlighter on the cheeks and brow bones and neutral lips.

Orlando Pita created an ultra-sleek style featuring poker-straight hair and reflective shine. "This is a very deliberate look," he said. "I think it's time to move away from the 'undone' thing and into a definite style."

GET THE LOOK - MAKEUP: All makeup by Estée Lauder. Start with DayWear Plus Multi Protection Anti-Oxidant Creme SPF 15 to hydrate and prep the skin, followed with Idealist Even Skintone Illuminator (launching Summer 2011) to add a luminous glow. Brush Bronze Goddess Soft Duo Bronzer below the cheekbones to contour and add definition, and lightly dust on Double Wear Light Stay-in-Place Makeup SPF 10 Lucidity Translucent Loose Powder to de-shine the T-zone. Fill in the brows with Automatic Brow Pencil to provide a frame for the striking, bold eyes: Use a small brush to apply the metallic silver from the lash line into the crease, creating an exaggerated cat-eye shape that extends slightly out toward the temples. Go over that with a light coat of black shimmer powder and blend, being careful not to smudge the precise lines (Estée Lauder EyeShadows in metallic silver and black shimmer launching Fall 2011). For a "strong highlight on the cheeks and brows," add Illuminating Powder (Fall 2011) and complete the look with Nude Matte Lipstick (Fall 2011).

GET THE LOOK - HAIR: Spray dry hair lightly with T3 Elevate spray (to help set the heat style) and straighten hair in small sections with the ceramic-plated T3 flatiron. Pull back the center section of the hair by creating two parts, one above each eyebrow arch, with the side sections hanging straight down. Spray liberally with T3 Control to smooth the middle section straight back; the idea is to keep the hair close to the head in a sleek style, without height or teasing at the crown. Use more T3 as needed, and tame down flyaways with a natural-bristle toothbrush.
