DESIGNER: Tracy Reese
INSPIRATION: "A shot of metallic, antique copper and silver, or a vibrant pop of raspberry, aqua or amber," in the designer's own words. "Breathing new life into muted neutral tones of toffee, black, brown and gray."
WHO WAS THERE: Gabrielle Union, Julia Stiles, Natalie Morales, Veronica Webb, June Ambrose
TOP LOOKS: Ladylike red coat with fur collar, beaded fringe frock with fur hemline, dresses with tassel embellishments
ACCESSORIES: Belts and bags perfect for a pretty picnic, save for the dominatrix-esque patent-leather lace-up boots
WHAT WE THOUGHT: Reese always brings the funk. Entirely wearable looks from head to toe reminded us of boho babes who wander NYC's Upper East Side.
Every season, Reese has a natural eye for making trends totally wearable -- hello, '70s silhouettes -- without sacrificing her vision. This collection was certainly uptown meets downtown, with the laissez-faire attitude most remarkable. Fur shawls draped effortlessly on the shoulders of models who donned exquisite formfitting frocks, while more voluminous silhouettes were kept in check, like the pleated rich-curry maxiskirt teamed with a cropped cape. Graphic and floral prints remained strong for the season, adding loads of individuality.
Far and away, those fur accents were the MVPs of the evening, reminding us a tad of the Oscar de la Renta looks from one year ago... if Oscar visited the farmers' market.
