THE SCOOP: Anna Sui's Fall 2011 collection combined Bohemian romance with edgy city-girl style, and the hair and makeup followed suit by borrowing from the boldly feminine yet self-empowered beauty look of the flower-power generation.
"It's a mod '60s girl who is running about the streets of England," said McGrath. Skin was transformed into glowy perfection with liquid foundation, as eyes stole the spotlight with a dark-brown line traced into the socket of the crease. The slightest pinch of blush made for a healthy flush, while lips stayed sheer and glossy.
Volume was the word of the day for hair, with equal parts teasing and hairspraying furiously going on backstage. "We're blasting volume into the crown, but because the girls have different kinds of hair, we're tailoring it to each girl," said Garren. Cropped cuts were given a more androgynous look, while longer-haired models enjoyed the classic '60s crown of cascading big hair.
A strong center part emphasized hair's retro inspiration, though the heightened back crown and fluidity of movement made for a modern feel.

GET THE LOOK HAIR: All products by René Furterer. Prep hair with Volumizing Conditioning Spray, and then blow-dry hair upside down while massaging the roots for maximum volume. After flipping back over, center-part the hair and tease the back crown and sides in sections. Smooth back over with Vegetal Finishing Spray, or Styling Wax if you have a short cropped cut. Run fingers through hair for a sexy, disheveled texture.
