"The Bachelor" Brad Womack proposed to "the love of his life," single mom Emily Maynard, on bended knee with stunning Neil Lane engagement ring and a pledge of his eternal love to end the show's 15th season tonight.
Womack, who notoriously rejected two women when he first starred in the prime-time dating soap in 2007, promised to marry Maynard, 24, after ending his relationship with his heartbroken second choice, 28-year-old divorcée Chantal O'Brien.
"This is feeling I've never had in 38 years," Womack said, of his fiancée, who was wearing a Tadashi Shoji gown for the romantic proposal set in South Africa. "You're the one Em. You're it. You're my once in a lifetime."
Yet, proving once again the show is no real-life fairy-tale, Texan Womack confessed on its related "After the Final Rose" ABC special the couple had already briefly broken up once since filming wrapped. He blamed tabloid scrutiny of their relationship.
Maynard confessed she struggled watching his romances with other girls, especially O'Brien, unfold on television. "We still have some things to work out before I move to Austin," Maynard said.
During his proposal, Womack also pledged to be a devoted stepfather to Maynard's daughter, Ricki. Maynard was previously engaged to NASCAR driver, Ricky Hendrick, who died in plane crash five years ago. Maynard revealed on "The Bachelor" she learned she was expecting Hendrick's child about a week after he died.
Womack and Maynard also revealed they had planned a surprise wedding for tonight but postponed it and have not set a second wedding date.
Yet all was bliss a few months ago, when the couple got engaged.
StyleList spoke exclusively with the show's resident stylist, Cary Fetman, for the romantic finale fashions details.
Fetman deliberately paired the rustic beauty of the landscape with the contrast of a "very formal look" for the finale.
Womack wore a custom-tailored suit by Dolce & Gabbana that he saved for the romantic occasion. "He loved the suit and couldn't wait to wear it, but in the end, we decided it was perfect for that moment," says Fetman.
Maynard's gold-tone, column-style dress was "the very first one" the Southern belle went to when she arrived for her finale fitting, Fetman says. The gown's soft draping, pleated bodice and shimmering fabric, gave Maynard an elegant, ethereal effect "of having been dipped in gold."
"Like America, I think I've fallen in love with her face and I wanted to show it off and I think this dress made her even more radiant and beautiful," says Fetman.
Badgley Mischka shoes and earrings completed Maynard's ensemble.
Runner-up O'Brien wore a one-shoulder hunter green dress with a feather detail by David Meister. She accessorized with gold-tone shoes and shoulder-skimming chandelier earrings, also by Badgley Mischka.
"She's got this beautiful va-va-voom to her and she came out looking like a Hollywood vixen," Fetman says. "And what we went for with that dress was really all about showing off that beautiful face and her shoulders."
O'Brien has moved on from her teary reality exit. She told show host Chris Harrison she's already dating someone else.
