Irish actor Michael Fassbender is about 10 years too young to play "Jane Eyre's" brooding Mr. Rochester, but the 34-year old somehow manages to pull off the role opposite Australian it-girl Mia Waskikowska, 21. The grand gothic tale "Jane Eyre" is undoubtedly a romance but the easy-on-the-eyes Fassbender tells W magazine he doesn't revel in love scenes.
"Sex scenes can be quite awkward. As a guy, the first thing you want to do is make sure you're not taking advantage. You don't want the girl to feel like you're getting a free feel or something," Fassbender tells the mag. "I try to make a fool of myself in one way or another to lighten the mood and then just go for it, because you don't want to be doing take after take."
Someone ought to tell Amanda Seyfried Fassbender's concerns. She told Elle magazine she wanted the hunk to be her next onscreen make out partner.
W styled the pair in what can only be described as Gothic chic with a plentiful dose of ostrich feathers. Wasikowska carries a fencing saber and wears an Alexander McQueen's ostrich feather and silk dress. In another shot she is in a Nina Ricci's silk tulle and ostrich feather top with Rosamosario's feather and tulle dress with studded crystals worn underneath. Fassbender remains feather free in a Dolce & Gabbana linen vest and cotton pants.
While Fassbender laments his love scenes, Wasikowska suffered for fashion on set.
"Now, having done 'Jane Eyre', I realize the Alice corsets were sissy corsets. The corsets I wore in 'Jane Eyre' were incredibly painful. Ballet hurts, but it's more like your feet are killing you. With a corset on, you can't breathe properly. Wasikowska says.
