My hair was in dire need of a pick-me-up (think dull, dry and uncharacteristically lackluster) when I was invited to celebrate the relaunch of two Organix collections, Renewing Moroccan Argan Oil and Ever Straight Brazilian Keratin Therapy, and receive a complimentary treatment.
I've been hearing about the miracle wonder that is Moroccan argan oil for a while and was curious to see if it merits all the gratuitous hype.
Here's the 411 on this super-ingredient for those who have yet to experience its magic: Argan oil is a powerful vitamin-packed antioxidant from the southwest region of Morocco. When used as a hair treatment, it instantly penetrates to soften, strengthen, restore shine and increase elasticity. It also protects strands against UV damage, big bonus!
The Organix Renewing Moroccan Argan Oil collection includes Renewing Moroccan Argan Oil shampoo and conditioner, formulated to restore moisture and deeply cleanse the scalp; Moroccan Argan Oil Renewing Treatment, a leave in formula that nourishes and hydrates the hair without weighing in down; Moroccan Argan Oil Penetrating Oil, frizz-fighting, ultralight oil that provides a radiant shine.
Each product is available for $7.99 at most major drugstores. And like all Organix products, the collection is sulfate-free and packaged in eco-friendly bottles.
After my hair was washed and conditioned with the Organix Renewing shampoo and conditioner, the Renewing Treatment was distributed from my roots to ends using a wide-tooth comb and left in for five minutes to do its thing (you can leave it in for longer or shorter, depending on hair needs). Following a rinse and some towel drying, the stylist distributed a less than dime-size drop of Penetrating Oil throughout my hair and got to work with the blow-dryer. He added a little more oil at the end for an extra shot of shine.
My strands felt significantly softer and almost weightless. And while it's usually an uphill battle to comb my waist-length hair out after it has been compacted into a little sink, with the lightest swipe of a comb every knot and tangle unraveled.
Then it was time to blow-dry, and I watched, amazed, as my hair was whipped into silk. The process was not unlike Rumpelstiltskin who spun all that straw into gold to help the fair maiden, only this took way less time.
When I came back to the office that afternoon, I was flooded with compliments and requests to touch my silky strands -- I couldn't blame the StyleList team, my hair was just so irresistibly soft!
In the days following, my oil-prone hair remained clean and fresh as can be. In fact, I waited an entire week before washing my hair and it still wasn't visibly oily! I gave the collection another test drive on my own, without the professionals or a blow-dryer, and noticed the same increase in softness and shininess, phew!
