With the 1970s back on the streets this spring, we've decided to spend this weekend combing our local thrift stores for the real deal duds. So for this installment of The Weekender, we've put together a vintage-inspired outfit centered around this season's staple, flared jeans.

Style tips:

Jeans: Good news ladies, spring's flared and wide-legged jeans are infinitely more flattering than the skinnies we've been sausaging ourselves into the past few years. A flared cut balances out the thigh area and elongates the legs. But you do have to rethink your silhouette. Say goodbye to all the flowy tunics and voluminous tops that worked with your skinnies.

Blouse: A tucked in, relatively form-fitting blouse accentuates the waistline, balancing out the flare at the hemline.

Sunglasses: As we sink back to the 1970s, we can throw out our Wayfarers and go for Taxi Driver-inspired glamour shades or even round Lennon-esque frames.

Bag: This satchel has a vintage structure with a bright, modern hue, a great pick for spring's have-no-fear bold colors.

Shoes: Now is a great time to start breaking in a new pair of platform sandals. Just throw them on with some funky patterned socks. No, we're not kidding. Socks are the new tights.
