At 46-years-old, Mary-Louise Parker is a breath of fresh air with her age-defying skin and shiny hair.

So when celebrity makeup artist Tina Turnbow sat down with the "Weeds" star for The New York Times Style Magazine to talk everything from good genes to Twizzlers, we were enthralled. Parker dished on the importance of wearing sunblock and eating healthy, plus her musician beau Charlie Mars revealed his grooming habits.

There's nothing out of the ordinary when it comes to Parker's beauty regime. But when Turnbow asked if she's had any beauty mishaps recently, we were surprised to learn of Parker's disappointment with the Brazilian Hair Straightening Treatment.

"I've experienced hair fall-out in the past, and it is not fun. This treatment resulted in more," Parker told Turnbow.

Her advice? "Don't do it!"

Head over to The New York Times Style Magazine, T, for the full interview.

"There's nothing out of the ordinary when it comes to Parker's beauty *regime*."
I am astounded that spelling and misunderstanding of words does not get picked up by any kind of editor. This sentence sounds as if Mary-Louise Parker has a beauty empire, and it is put together by certain laws. The writer should have been corrected so that the it would read "beauty *regimen*". A "regimen" is "a systematic plan (i.e. as a diet)". A "regime", is "a form of government or administration".

Actually regime also means a systematic plan. It's the second definition of the word.
regime
noun
1 members of the former military regime: government, system of government, authorities, rule, authority, control, command, administration, leadership.
2 a health regime: system, arrangement, order, pattern, method, procedure, routine, course, plan, program.

Spelling and punctuation are important, Rae. America is becoming a country that is dumbing down and that is unacceptable. It is amazing how many college level papers are written in "text speak" and how often students are surprised by the poor grades they receive. Knowing how to properly express yourself is a very important part of life.

The brazilian treatment is amazing for people who have unmanigable hair. Someone like Mary louise Parker doesnt know what its like to have hair like Sideshow Bob on a humid day, and watch it get bigger and frizzier as the day goes on. If i were her I wouldnt have gotten it done in the first place. Think of stars like: Minnie Driver, Julianna Margules? (spelling sorry think 90's ER) these are the people who should be getting the treatment. Not someone with a slight wave who says their hair is curly when it really isnt. Take Parker's comment with a grain of salt. I had Keratin treatment twice, and I will be going for my third time soon. my hair is still curly, its just easily straightened with a round brush and hairdryer. thats the difference. If i didnt have the treatment I couldnt manage to get a round brush through my hair without help. and a flat iron to boot. I am Italian with extremely thick curly coarse hair. This treatment has changed my angst toward my hair for life provided of course that I can continue to afford it :)

I know we all have to find what works best for our hair but personally and professionally aim to encourage women to accept their naturally curly hair and work with it rather than against it. It's better for our hair and our self esteem when we can accept what we were naturally born with. There is nothing wrong with having curly hair, learning to deal with keeping it curly isn't nearly as impossible as it used to be. Humidity is still a challenge but certainly not an insurmountable one. We all have the right to remain curly and I applaud MLP for being honest about her experience with the treatment.

I have long thick curly hair. The Brazilian treatment was a HUGE waste of money. After all the money and half a day in a chair at a salon, my hair was only slightly smoother. It is still very curly. Dont bother with it!

I was under the impression that Brazilian Keratin was to stop hair from frizzing in high humidity. If you want it stick straight you can use a flatiron. Otherwise, you hair will be the same as it was BEFORE the treatment, only it won't frizz in humidity. For example, if you hair was wavy, curly or straight it will stay that way, it just won't frizz. Is this not true? I am planning to have it done in a month for a family wedding taking place in July, so I'm really interested in reading everyone's comments.

You are right about it not taking the curls away. If you let it dry naturally you will have your curl, just not the frizz. I am on my third Brazillian Blowout and will keep getting them. it makes my hair (thick, course and with curl) more manageable and I don't always have to wear it in a ponytail. Plus it dries real nice with just a vent brush it looks like I have spent a lot of time on it and haven't.

Wrong. The Brazilian Treatment straightens and smooths curly hair. I have chin-length naturally curly hair and had this treatment performed more than 3 months ago. My beautician used the La-Brasiliana brand. I also use L-B non-sulphur shampoo and conditioner and frizz-free product. My hair is still straight and smooth, except for the new growth, which seems to grow out very slowly. I still need to blow my hair dry and smooth it with a curling iron for the silky effect. If you like I can send a before and after photo. As far as experiencing hair loss, I'm 51 and realize that some hair loss is natural. This may possibly depend on the product and process. I don't seem to be experiencing this problem with my hair. However, I'm not having the treatment performed monthly either. The original L-B keratin treatment must be left in hair 3-days (hair looks is styled so not to worry) and lasts months. There are 2 newer treatments which can be shampooed sooner than 3-days, but they don't last as long. Call around and find out what brand the salon uses. I paid $160, but it also included a cut and style. By the way, I have colored hair and the keratin seems to bring out a natural sheen. I know about this particular brand, but can not speak to the results of others. My email address is deckerfam@aol.com if you want to see the photos. Good Luck!

I can totally relate to the Side Show Bob comment so I had a keratin treatment and one made my hair super straight which was not what I wanted. The other treatment reduced frizz but after all the hype over the chemincals I needed another opition. I have been using Cibu Hiya Keratin Shampoo and Conditioner with Its a 10 Keratin Leave In Spray. This three steps has made my hair more manageable when I wear it straight and super easy to blowdry.
