Tax day looms on Monday, but for many people that means a big fat refund. The average return this year is projected to be about $3,257. You could put that cash in savings or you could, you know, hit the mall. We'll let you guys take a wild guess which route we're planning. So for this installment of The Weekender, we've got some suggestions for both investment pieces and trend items to buy with your refund check.

Style Tips

Dress: If there's one thing we've always wanted to splurge on, it's a Lanvin dress. Few designers know how to flatter and luxuriate the female body like Alber Elbaz. We love this frock because it's two dresses in one. The orange-y red hue is on-trend for spring, but you can also reverse it to the perfect little black dress on the other side. So it's both a trendy splurge and a wardrobe investment piece.

Shoes: Another ideal investment piece? Nude Louboutin pumps. Wearing shoes that match your skin tone lengthens the leg, and the color is also the perfect match for spring's riot of bright hues.

Purse: Peach or pale pink are unexpected but ideal hues to pair with the bold orange dress. This ASOS clutch looks much more luxe than it's $54 price tag.

Bracelet and earrings: We love complimenting these warm tones with gold studs and a chain bracelet.
