Watch: Jenna Lyons on Anna Wintour, the CFDA and Her Style Icons
Jenna Lyons, J.Crew's stylish (and, these days, ubiquitous) president and executive creative director, recently broke from prepping the label's Fall 2012 womens- and menswear presentation to dish about her personal style and what it was like to serve as a judge with Anna Wintour for the CFDA Vogue Fashion Fund.
First things first: what are Lyons' wardrobe must-haves? Her basics, of course -- a navy blazer, crisp white shirt and favorite pair of studded high heels. She's also crazy for sequins, a fact that becomes apparent when perusing J.Crew's fall offerings.
Adorably, the 42-year-old designer mom shares her love of spangled fashion with her son. The tot helps her plan her daily outfit. "It starts with my son, who loves my shoes, and I have a lot of them. So we've developed a tradition where he picks out the shoes. But I have to rotate them, otherwise he'd pick out the same high heel sparkly shoes every time because he loves them. So I rotate them, he picks out the shoes and then I work from there."
On the CFDA: "I was incredibly intimidated to be sitting on a board with Anna Wintour and Diane von Furstenberg," Lyons admits, but goes on to tell how welcome she felt, and how educational the experience turned out to be. "I've taken a really different route. I work for a pretty large company and to be able to see what these young designers are going through and to be in a position to help them . . . it's really rewarding."
