Well, it's May, and it's raining. We Northeasterners have waited for this month since November and it's finally here, but to everyone's discomfort, it's cold and rainy and I'm sour just thinking about it. In protest I'd like to crawl under my bed and emerge only when it's sunny and warm, but alas, I cannot. I'd get fired, for one thing, and I'm allergic to dust. Woe is me. So since I must brave the rain a little longer, I might as well look darn good doing it. Onward!

What I like most about rainy-day wear is that you can have a lot of fun with it, and it's never really going to go out of style. I mean, anything made out of rubber and plastic has got to be timeless, right?

Colorful and whimsical boots, umbrellas, and jackets will make dressing for the dreariest of days a little more fun and a little less depressing. I must admit, as much as I hate the rain (I have no choice but to walk to work come downpour or blizzard-- don't get me started on how easy it is to rack up hundreds in lazy cab ride fairs) I do get a kick out of wearing my little yellow rubber booties with lady bugs on them. Who can be in a bad mood when you're wearing something that pre-schoolers would love?

If you already have the classic trench you can sunny it up with cute rain-friendly accessories that will keep you dry and fashionable. My parcels of new percipitation accoutrement are on their way to me ... but in the meantime, I'll be under my bed. Someone hand me a tissue (and some peanut butter crackers would be nice) and only disturb me if it's sunny or if the UPS man is at my door. Until then, rain, rain, go away.
