How to Get a Flawless Look for Acne-Prone Skin

Bothered by blemishes and scars? Makeup artist Karla Hirkaler for Eve Pearl creates a flawless look for acne-prone skin.

How to Get a Flawless Look for Acne-Prone Skin

Apply a Priming Moisturizer with Astaxanthin (a natural sun block without chemicals) all over the skin. Use fingers or a sponge.

MYTH: Applying moisturizer will add to the oil on acne prone/oily/sensitive skin. NOT TRUE. You want to keep your skin moisturized and balanced so skin doesn't keep accumulating excess oils.

How to Get a Flawless Look for Acne-Prone Skin

Begin with the HD Dual Foundation (Light). Using a new technique called Reverse Contouring; apply the lighter shade of the foundation with a Foundation brush (use the side that has the company's name to distinguish which has the lighter shade) on your eyelids, around the lips and above the jawline (right under the cheek hollow).

How to Get a Flawless Look for Acne-Prone Skin

With the same Foundation brush (using the other side) apply the darker side of the HD Dual Foundation to the rest of your face; cheeks, forehead, nose and chin (anywhere you have the discoloration, acne scarring, redness and breakouts) ... I know it sounds crazy, but give it a try, it works.

TIP: If some areas need more attention, use the tip of the Foundation brush on those specific areas. You can also use a concealer brush for smaller areas.

How to Get a Flawless Look for Acne-Prone Skin

This step is essential: Dampen a dry sponge/wedge so the water is throughout and squeeze so it's not over saturated. Use this damp sponge to go over the foundation all over the face and smooth out the application. This smoothing process allows you to have full coverage where you need it and sheer coverage where you don't need it.

TIP: Try to use foundations compatible with water. This will allow you to have versatility with your coverage and will allow your skin to breathe.

TIP: Try to use a non-latex sponge/wedge, this will ensure the sponge expands and allows for a more smooth application. A mini travel spray bottle will also help for "on the go" needs.

Apply a Pressed Powder with a powder puff, pressing it on the skin to ensure the foundation does not move.

How to Get a Flawless Look for Acne-Prone Skin

With a Blush Trio (Peachy/Pinky/Bronzer) and a Fan brush, sweep over all 3 colors and apply to the apples of the cheeks. If you're not sure where your apples are, simply smile.

Some Tips For Getting Rid Of Acne

Stress is on of the biggest precursors of acne, especially beyond puberty. Controlling stress can reduce the release of the stress hormone cortisol, and therefore reduce the severity of the acne. Id you suffer from stress regularly, learn to recognise the early symptoms and take action. There are various ways you can reduce stress and become more relaxed:

Exercise — especially Yoga and T'ai Chi. Moderate exercise will increase blood flow to the skin and aid healing, as well as improve the health of your internal organs enabling them to get rid of waste more effectively.
Relaxation techniques, such as breathing exercises and meditation

Reduce Your Intake Of Sugar And Refined Carbohydrates
There is recent research pointing the finger at diet — eating refined carbohydrates (white bread, pasta, rice, flour etc) and sugar leads to a surge in insulin and an insulin-like growth factor called IGF-1. This in turn leads to an excess of male hormones, which encourage the skin to excrete large amounts of sebum. This grease-like substance encourages the growth of bacteria responsible for acne.
Refined carbs/sugar = more insulin = more hormones = more sebum (oil) = more bacteria = more acne

Reduce Your Intake Of Caffeine
Caffeine increases the levels of stress hormones in the body and can aggravate acne. Avoid coffee, tea, chocolate and other stimulant containing drinks.

Reduce Your Intake Of Dairy And Red Meat

Dairy products and meat are hard for us to digest, and are acid-forming in the body. The condition of the skin is linked to the health of your internal organs. If you're struggling to digest high levels of animal protein, your body won't get rid of waste products effectively, and they will be released via the skin as acne. Dairy and red meat also contain high levels of hormones which can increase our our levels, and result in more acne. Many people are also intolerant to dairy products without realising it, and a mild intolerance can manifest itself as acne. There are plenty of alternatives to dairy these days — and you can create simple and nutritious nut milks at home, such as the calcium-rich sesame and banana super smoothie.

Sunshine And Fresh Air

Sunshine stimulates the creation of vitamin D in the body — an essential vitamin for healthy skin. A little bit of fresh air and sunshine every day will also reduce stress and increase oxygen to the skin. Even when it's overcast, the sun's rays reach us, so take a 10 minute walk outside every day. Don't get burnt in the sun though — apart from increasing the risk of skin cancer, burnt and heavily tanned skin forms a thick layer on the skin's surface that doesn't exfoliate quickly enough and leads to blocked pores.

Just about everything out there today fits into the categories you mentioned to stop eating/drinking. Women who have their lives full, with kids, work, etc. have no time to stop and cook like Betty Crocker used to every day.

Also, have you ever had to have a PET scan? You need to eat a low to no-carb diet the day before. There are only a small handfuls of food available with no carbs, so it's next to impossible to do so.

Wow, what a detailed comment. I also think, just keep all the sectors in your life in as good a balance as possible helps skin health and overall health. Benzoyl peroxide after cleaning one's skin, in some kind of drying and pleasant lotion can help. Many commercial products contain this key ingredient. Cetaphil soap for sensitive skin, also softens the skin. Cetaphil soap for regular and oily skin I find harsh. Good luck.

Falun Dafa Makes Me Younger Looking
I started practicing Falun Dafa in 1997. My facial appearance underwent a big change after I started to study the Fa and practice the exercises. All the dark skin on my face peeled off. My relatives and friends were surprised when they saw me and remarked that this gong was very powerful. Previously, the skin on my face had been very dark with many wrinkles and black spots. I was also heavy and ungraceful. After practicing Falun Gong, I would experience my skin peeling off every one to two months. I cannot recall how many times it happened.

I am now 53 years old and my skin is white and delicate. There are no wrinkles on my face. My eyes are brilliant and my body is well-proportioned. I can wear clothes that young people wear. I have really become young. Dafa is magnificent. I have experienced a complete change.

I know it was Master who gave me a younger-looking appearance. There is no excuse for me not to follow Master's requirements and not do the three things well. When others see me, they are shocked and say: "Wow! You look so young!" I said the reason I look so young is because I practice Falun Dafa, the high level principles of the cosmos. During the past 13 years, I have not taken a single pill nor had a single injection. I am very healthy. At all times, I measure myself with the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance. Master stays near at all times.
