Jessica Simpson is returning to what she knows best- no not singing- reality TV. The designer/actress/pop star who found love and loss on MTV's Newlyweds is returning to the small screen as a celebrity mentor on NBC's latest venture Fashion Star.

Hosted by Elle Macpherson, Fashion Star is essentially Project Runway, minus the snarky wordsmith Michael Kors, arbiter of taste Nina Garcia and all of the network drama that has accompanied the show in the past few years: Fashion Star will let aspiring designers compete in a blood thirsty battle for the opportunity to launch their own line. (Another frightening similarity between the two shows: the producers of Fashion Star include Dan Cutforth and Jane Lipsitz of Magical Elves, the original producers of Project Runway.)

Simpson may stumble over whether chicken of the sea is fish or poultry, but she has been recently estimated to have a fashion empire worth almost a billion dollars. While she might struggle with dressing herself on a daily basis, Simpson proves that she is a smart choice for NBC. And she is willing to speak her mind. For a sneak peek of what we can expect from Simpson, here is a video clip of her instigating a fight as a judge on the aforementioned Project Runway Season 8 finale. Bring it on!
